Department:Health Care PolicyPre-Employment Screening:Identity Schedule:35 hours/week | Monday-Friday | 9:00am to 5:00pmJob Function:Research Job-Specific Responsibilities:The Research Assistant (RA) will support health services research projects led by two senior faculty members, Dr. Bruce Landon and Dr. Michael McWilliams, who are professors at Harvard Medical School. This position is based in the Department of Health Care Policy at Harvard Medical School. This research will be on topics that are highly relevant to U.S. health care policy. Current projects focus on the economics of the Medicare program, including the role of private Medicare plans and Accountable Care Organizations, payment system design, risk adjustment, quality of care including the provision of low value care, and international comparisons of medical care.

The main tasks of the Research Assistant will be to assist with coordinating and carrying out research projects, including conducting literature reviews, drafting portions of manuscripts related to the data analysis, and creating presentation slides with findings from the analyses. The Research Assistant will participate in team meetings and be expected to work in a collaborative and supportive manner with other members of the research team. Relatedly, the Research Assistant will help support the faculty member with project management, such as IRB applications, meeting notes, and data compliance tasks. We also anticipate that the RA will assist with some tasks related to data programming and statistical analysis. This work will involve developing data files that can be analyzed (i.e., “cleaning the data”) as well using statistical analysis to analyze the data (with supervision by the PIs). Thus, a background in statistical programming is preferred (STATA necessary, both STATA and SAS encouraged), though not a firm requirement. A basic understanding of economics and econometrics is also preferred. The RA will also be expected to have strong writing skills in order to help with manuscript drafts based on the analyses.
