    Job Description

RESOURCE SHARING ASSISTANT, MIT Libraries-Resource Sharing Team, to facilitate access to MIT library materials for reciprocal borrowers, academic and public libraries, and private research institutions. Responsibilities include filling inter-library lending requests; verifying citation and location information; maintaining knowledge of request methods, holdings, and payment and delivery arrangements; communicating policies/procedures; developing a working understanding of ILLiad, RAPID, ReShare, Request Tracker, LibAnswers, Libraries’ web pages, and web forms; scanning articles and book chapters; participating in the pick-up, sorting, delivery, check-in, and return of materials between library units; and performing other duties as requested. Job Requirements

REQUIRED: high school diploma or its equivalent; six months’ direct/related experience that provides an understanding of library/service functions; valid driver's license, ability to operate a motor vehicle, and good driving record; proficiency with Windows software (including Google Docs, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook), strong data entry skills, and comfort learning additional programs/systems; excellent problem-solving, interpersonal, and verbal and written communication skills; and strict attention to detail. Must be able to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic, fast-paced environment; identify problems, exercise good judgment, and carry out solutions; deliver excellent customer service in-person and via email/telephone; and contribute independently and as part of a service team. PREFERRED: associate’s/bachelor’s degree; academic and/or research library experience, especially interlibrary loan; familiarity with MIT’s administrative departments/systems; ability to work effectively with a diverse group of people; experience in a customer service environment; experience working with ILLiad, Alma, RAPID ILL, and/or ReShare; strong organizational and analytical skills; initiative; and ability to work under minimal supervision and bring tasks/projects to full completion. Job #23926-4 Work conditions: moving boxes weighing up to 40 lbs., shelving library materials and pushing book trucks, and exposure to dust Hourly rate: $20.12 - 27.17 - 34.21 This is a full-time (35 hrs/wk) position, Monday through Friday, 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. Schedule to be determined. This is a union position. Employees working in this position are covered by the collective bargaining agreement between the MIT Libraries and American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Council 93.
