RESOURCE SHARING ASSISTANT, MIT Libraries-Resource Sharing Team, to collaborate with team members to facilitate access to MIT library materials for reciprocal borrowers, academic and public libraries, and private institutions. Will fill interlibrary lending/document delivery requests using online systems and respond to patron queries; verify materials’ citation and location information; become conversant in consortial arrangements; communicate policies and procedures; develop a working understanding of ILLiad, RAPID, Relais, Request Tracker, MIT Libraries’ web pages, and web forms in order to process requests, resolve issues, assist patrons, troubleshoot/report problems, and respond to library staff; photocopy or scan articles and book chapters; and provide support for the pick‐up, sorting, delivery, check‐ in and return or library materials between library units. May participate in hiring or directing student employees and participate on committees and/or projects.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: at least six months’ direct/related experience that provides understanding of library or service functions; experience with standard computer software and ability to learn new software/systems/technology; tact; excellent organizational, customer service, interpersonal, and verbal and written communication skills; ability to work independently and as part of a service team, exercise good judgment, manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and identify problems and carry out solutions; strong data entry skills; aptitude for detail-oriented work; flexibility; ability to lift 40 lbs., move boxes, shelve library materials and push book trucks; a tolerance for exposure to dust; and valid driver’s license, good driving record, and ability to operate a motor vehicle. Bachelor’s degree; experience in an academic/research library, especially interlibrary loan; experience in a customer service environment; and experience working with ILLiad, Aleph, RAPID ILL, and NRE and/or Relais preferred.
