Abt Associates Senior Instructional Designer in Cambridge, Massachusetts
Abt Associates seeks an Instructional Designer (Senior) to support the Learning and Development Function of the Talent Management team. The position is based out of our Rockville, MD location and can be remote.
The Instructional Designer (Senior) will design and develop engaging content, experiences and learning solutions, including web-based, instructor-led and blended solutions with the purpose of Abt staff improving and acquiring their knowledge and skills. S/he will contribute to the strategic objectives by producing learning products that meet Abt’s standard for quality. S/he will co-manage the Learning and Management System and ensure ongoing consistent and effective operations for data input, learning records, historical training data and web-based training development. S/he will work collaboratively with the Talent Management team and other staff to ensure development and delivery of quality learning solutions to the global Abt workforce.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Applies current best industry practices for instructional design that drive learning and performance improvement.
Collaborates and partners with subject matter experts (SME) to conceptualize, storyboard, design and create effective learning components and materials to deliver an engaging learning experience that creates measurable results and business impact for the target audience. This includes interviewing SMEs to collect necessary data to design the program and define the desired learning outcomes as well as communicate and collaborate frequently and effectively with project team members to ensure goals and objectives are being fulfilled.
Determines the best modality to execute the desired learning outcomes and continually assesses and improves the effectiveness of training and development programs and processes.
Applies a rapid design process starting with needs analysis to determine appropriate learning requirements, methodologies, and modalities.
Designs and develops interactive, engaging, and high-impact web-based content and materials suited for Learning Management System (LMS) and the Web that are compliant with Abt standards.
Manages revisions and updates of current training materials and courses. Produces design documents, project plans, and storyboards to establish project parameters.
Creates and designs various materials, including but not limited to participant and trainer guides, on-the-job learning, handouts, and job aids.
Develops measurement and accountability mechanisms that evaluate job readiness or performance to enable continuous improvement.
Partners with HR systems team, uploads and manages courses, course descriptions, and deployment of content.
Adapts well to changing priorities, manages multiple projects concurrently.
Stays informed of trends and innovative learning best practices.
Establishes and maintains effective and professional business relations with internal and external stakeholders.
Industry certification in learning and development highly desirable.
Minimum 5 years developing high-quality web-based training using SCORM framework.
Minimum 7 years producing instructional materials in a deadline-oriented environment. Work samples, references, and a live presentation will be required.
High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Word, Excel).
Strong learning design skills including proficiency in e-learning design software (Articulate 360 suite, Adobe Captivate, Camtasia, Powtoon).
Strong graphic design skills including proficiency in desktop publishing tools and graphic design software (PhotoShop, Illustrator)
Proficiency in instructional design methods (ADDIE, Agile, SAM).
Minimum 5 years working with learning management systems (LMS) including but not limited to course set up, troubleshooting, testing, tracking and reporting. Hands-on experience with Oracle Learning Module a plus.
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills combined with strong graphic design skills, documentation skills and a passion for crafting high-level content.
Highly effective time and project management skills including demonstrated ability to meet challenging deadlines and manage multiple projects concurrently in a dynamic environment without sacrificing creativity, quality, and attention to detail.
Experience developing measurement tools and strategies that focus on knowledge transfer and business impact.
Experience managing vendor and client relationships.
Excellent customer service skills.
Technically adept with the willingness to learn new technology.
Knowledge of accessibility standards and experience developing web-based training that meet 508 requirements.
Bachelor’s Degree + Twelve years of relevant experience, or Master’s Degree + Ten years of relevant experience, or PhD+ Eight years of relevant experience
