Advanced specialized degree may count toward the experienceAdditional Qualifications and Skills:-Master’s degree from an accredited two-year program in medical illustration/biomedical communications preferred.

-Board Certified Medical Illustrator (CMI) desired.

-Must be highly organized, exceptionally detail-oriented, flexible, and able to collaborate across constituencies to handle multiple illustration, animation, and design projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.

-Competency using Adobe Creative Suite as well as tools for effectively sharing/prototyping/collaborating on visual assets is required.

-Strong knowledge of graphic design, typography, color theory, layout, and storyboarding is required.

-Experience designing graphics for mobile delivery is desired, including an understanding of resolution independent graphics, image optimization, and responsive design.

-Experience creating vector-based illustration is a plus.

-Experience working with faculty is a plus.

-Experience writing scripts is a plus.

-Project management experience is a plus.

-Working knowledge of 3D molecular visualization and 3D modeling is a plus.

-Familiarity with html, css, and javascript is a plus.

-Interest in data visualization to enhance medical education materials is a plus.Additional Information: This Staff role may start as a remote position due to the COVID-19 pandemic and while the Massachusetts COVID-19 state of emergency restrictions are still in place. The current remote nature of this role is considered temporary and may change as the University continues to evaluate options. While we continue to monitor the evolving COVID-19 guidelines, local on-campus work may be expected for some roles. Harvard Medical School does support flexible schedules, subject to individual departments’ business needs.

Under the direction of the Director of Creative Media and working with other members of the HMX online learning team, you will bring world-class visual design sensibilities and expertise in information organization, visual communication, and storytelling to produce a broad range of visual media including biomedical illustration, 2D animation, interactive educational media, and graphic design. You will ensure HMX brand consistency and graphic identity across all work including curricular content and marketing materials, delivering an array of best-in-class visual products in multiple modalities.

Working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment, you will have an opportunity to make a difference in shaping an innovative online educational experience. You should feel comfortable working closely with world-class faculty and be experienced in researching complex scientific topics, asking concise questions, and synthesizing feedback. You should be energized by working in a highly collaborative cross-disciplinary team and be able to give and receive feedback gracefully. Expertise with a fully digital workflow and the associated tools is crucial and comfort exploring new technologies is welcome. Curiosity, creativity, and initiative are a must, along with strong interpersonal skills and problem-solving ability for challenges in effective visual communication. HMX description

HMX is an educational initiative at Harvard Medical School dedicated to creating fully online courses on foundational and advanced topics in medicine. These courses are led by Harvard Medical School faculty, working in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team of experts in visual communication, assessment, and the science of learning.
