Understanding of and commitment to the ethical stewardship of museum collections in partnership with stakeholder communities. Significant knowledge of legal issues in museums including repatriation, provenance concerns, and intellectual property. Substantial experience with packing and shipping fragile collections; working knowledge of and fish and wildlife laws and permitting requirements. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Good analytical and problem solving skills; ability to establish and achieve priorities. Good communication and interpersonal skills required. Strong attention to detail.

Duties and Responsibilities: Develops and implements policies and procedures for the Registration Department including acquisitions, deaccessions, loans, rights and reproductions, analytical sampling, and insurance/risk management. Identifies and resolves collection-related legal concerns, working with the Office of the General Counsel as needed. Manages repatriation outside of the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) and provides registration support to NAGPRA activities. Advises on intellectual property issues including developing licenses and agreements. Sets agenda and compiles documentation for the Museum’s Collections Review Committee (CRC). Oversees incoming and outgoing loans, including negotiating loan terms, coordinating packing and transport with outside vendors, working with customs brokers for international loans, addressing permitting requirements, and serving as courier when required. Coordinates requests for permission to conduct analytical sampling of Museum collections, reviewing proposals, obtaining approvals, and processing requests. Drafts and maintains the Registration Department’s long-range strategic plan in collaboration with division director and other Museum departments. Supervises Registration Department staff and daily administration of department; supervises interns or work-study students on designated projects. Supports the Registration Department's mission and responsibilities and performs other duties as required.

The Senior Registrar serves as the administrative head of the Peabody Museum’s Registration Department, overseeing acquisition, accessioning, deaccessioning, loan, documentation, analytical sampling, rights and reproduction, and repatriation outside of NAGPRA. Manages registration staff and daily operations, determines departmental plans and priorities, establishes and maintains departmental workflow, solves administrative issues, and manages departmental budget. Reports to the Director of Collections.
