Additional Qualifications:Previous billing/collection experience in a medical and/or dental field a plus. Business training beyond high school or college background preferred. Competency using a variety of computer software (including spreadsheets and word processing). Demonstrated customer service abilities. Knowledge of Dental or Medical administrative operations a plus. The Harvard Dental Center (HDC) is a state-of-the art comprehensive dental care facility located adjacent to the Harvard School of Dental Medicine. As a “school within a school,” the Dental Center houses Teaching Practices, where treatment is delivered by pre-doctoral dental students and advanced graduate dental students. The Dental Center also encompasses a Faculty Group Practice, with care provided by Harvard faculty members. A multi-specialty group dental practice, the Faculty Group Practice combines general dentists, specialists in all areas of dental medicine, and dental hygienists to provide a one-stop approach to treating patients.
Reporting to the Assistant Director of Patient and Financial Services this Part-time Medical Billing Services Liaison is responsible for performing a variety of administrative/support duties that are specifically related to the Oral Surgery Program at the Harvard Dental Center Faculty Group and Teaching Practices.
Duties include hospital and special procedure approvals, hospital Operating Room (OR) scheduling, scheduling medical imaging studies, medical prior-authorizations, medical and sedation services billing, interfacing with special needs agencies for medical treatment and other coordination of services as needed. Support medical/dental provider(s) in the scheduling, billing and collections of services. Successful candidates will be capable of working independently with minimal supervision, have a strong desire to have direct interface with a large patient population pool, multiple dentists and or dental residents and students,. Must possess excellent customer service skills, attention to detail, exceptional organizational and time management skills. The position will perform day-to-day activities of services related to meeting and greeting patients, registering new patients, insurance and patient billing, insurance coding, data entry, cashiering, MassHealth and other coding, and accounts receivable aging. Updates coordinators and manager (as needed) on status of projects.
Experience in gaining insurance approvals for orthognathic surgery, tumor surgery, reconstruction operations including convincing insurance to cover implants. Special needs dentoalveolar surgery. Booking operations at multiple Harvard teaching hospitals and being familiar with their booking systems. Getting insurance approval for many ancillary procedures such as botox prp, therapeutic blocks arthrocentesis of the TMJ. Knowledge in arranging urgent direct admissions of patients to our affiliate hospital when needed. Working with other surgical/medical and dental services in coordinating multi-disciplinary OR procedures (sometimes with 4 separate services involved, keeping track of prescription renewals, able to work with the various surgical service companies ordering custom and stock tmj prostheses, sending the 3D ct data for CAD/CAM prosthesis. Ordering, obtaining approvals and scheduling imaging studies such as CT, MRI, NUCLEAR SCANS, PET SCANS. Knowledge in ICD 10 AND CPT CODING OF SURGICAL PROCEDURES.
This is a one-year term appointment, with the possibility of extension—pending funding.
