Additional Qualifications:

Master’s Degree or Certification in Assistive Technology Specialist

Experience in a Disability Services Office preferred.

This position must have expert knowledge of various AT solutions and working knowledge various course delivery system and learning management systems.

Working knowledge of Americans with Disabilities Act, Section 504 of the 1973 Rehabilitation Act, other related regulations/laws (e.g., copyright law,) online education models and platforms, and the process of creating of accessible documents/materials.

The Division of Continuing Education (DCE) comprises several entities including the Harvard Extension School, the Harvard Summer School, the Harvard Professional Development Programs and the Harvard Institute for Learning in Retirement. DCE courses use a variety of platforms for delivery to students including online synchronous and asynchronous courses and typical classroom settings at Harvard University.We are looking to fill a new position of Accessibility Administrator for Assistive Technology and Materials. The Accessibility Administrator for Assistive Technology and Materials role serves multiple purposes: 1) to assess and recommend student’s needs for assistive technology (AT), 2) support faculty and the course development team with the interface of assistive technology in courses, and 3) to manage the accessible materials center for the ASO.

The Accessibility Administrator for Assistive Technology and Materials has significant responsibility in supporting the mission of the Accessibility Services Office (ASO) serving as the primary contact for students, faculty and staff for assistive technology needs. This person will be responsible for the smooth operation of the Accessible Materials Center (AMC) that supports the alternative text needs of students and faculty.

Key aspects of the job include:

Support DCE students and faculty/instructors with the use of technologies needed for access to courses and overall accommodation equipment and supports.

Acclimate faculty/instructors to the implementation of AT for students, trouble shoot areas of difficulty or concern

Collaborate with course instruction design team on areas of concern, universal design in the development and continuation of ongoing and new course platforms.

Manage the operations of the Accessible Media Center – meaning oversee coordinator role in production of accessible materials for students, faculty and staff. This includes scheduling, prioritizing and implementing the best practice for the workflow of the office.

Assessment of student needs for Assistive technology (AT); determine the appropriate technological assistance for students.

Training students, staff and faculty on AT use and interfacing with course design and delivery.

The Accessibility Administrator for Assistive Technology and Materials will manage a small case load of students whose primary accommodations include AT or accessible texts. Ongoing communication with students, staff and faculty around critical AT matters will be an area of responsibility for this role.
