The Department of English seeks to appoint a tenure-track professor in Victorian literature and culture, broadly conceived, at the rank of assistant professor. The successful candidate will have a strong doctoral record and should show promise of excellence in scholarship. Although we encourage all qualified candidates to apply, we are especially interested in candidates with PhDs completed within the last five years with research or teaching interests in the histories of the book and information theory, historical poetics, trans-Atlanticism, colonialism, and/or sexuality studies. The appointment is expected to begin on July 1, 2019. The tenure-track professor will be responsible for teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels. They will also be expected to contribute to the intellectual life of the Faculty and University by pursing a full program of scholarly research and course development, advising undergraduate and graduate students, overseeing independent research projects, and engaging in an appropriate amount of service.
Doctorate or terminal degree in English Literature or related discipline required by the time the appointment begins.
Demonstrated strong commitment to teaching is desired.

Those in serious consideration for the position will be expected to submit in mid November the entire dissertation or as much of it as is completed (or, alternatively, a book-length publication).
