Job Description

The Assistant Director for Student Organizations oversees operations and advising, supporting the student organization program at Boston College which directly impacts student engagement within a Jesuit, Catholic context. This position is located in the Office of Student Involvement (OSI) which includes the following functions: student organization advising; leadership development, student government and student programming. The Office also supports major events including Senior Week, Super Fan Zones, Family Weekends and supporting campus wide programs including Weeks of Welcome, Marathon Monday, and Homecoming.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • overseeing a portfolio of student organizations in their event planning, financial transactions, and goal implementation;

  • overseeing the Student Organization Funding Committee, financial training, and the budgetary controls for over $800K, including the management and allocation of the student fee, and the expenditure process for 200+ registered student organizations;

  • overseeing the Family Week program, the Student Involvement Fair, and supports student organization registration and training, including Student Organization Day;

  • supervising graduate assistants and undergraduate student assistants;

  • monitoring and managing budgetary controls and accountability for various programs, including the SOFC budget of over $800,000;

  • contributing to the greater goals of the division and the university. These contributions (outside of your primary work area) may include supporting division and university-wide initiatives, staffing events, and serving on committees as needed.

  • some of this work may take place on weekends and outside of normal business hours; andevening and weekend work to support student programming.

Full-Time Equivalent Hiring Range: $57,850 to $72,300; salary commensurate with relevant experience.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree required

  • Minimum of 2 years of demonstrated progressive student affairs experience, preferably in the development of student organization development, student programs and/or activities, and student group advising

  • Understanding and supportive of the Jesuit Catholic mission of Boston College

  • Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in student leadership and/or programming

  • Comprehensive understanding of current student development and learning theories

  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion

  • Ability to work collaboratively with students

  • Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills

  • Strong leadership, judgment, managerial, organizational, interpersonal, and motivational skills

  • Demonstrated financial management skills

  • Strong writing and public speaking skills

  • Commitment to professional development

  • Experience in a position that clearly demonstrates the ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students
