Associate Director, Employer Engagement

Boston College Career Center

The Associate Director for Employer Engagement is a member of the Career Center Leadership Team and works directly with the Director and other Associate Directors to establish and manage the strategic vision for career services at Boston College, to promote collaborative work within and beyond the department to ensure students have positive career outcomes, and to create a welcoming and inclusive environment within the Career Center.

Specifically, the Associate Director leads the five-person employer engagement team to set the strategic vision for employer engagement, making sure it aligns with overall departmental and divisional priorities and goals. The person in this role advances the Career Center’s mission by conducting a proactive employer outreach campaign and overseeing the employer engagement and recruiting programs for Boston College students. Their focus will be on: promoting Boston College students to employers, alumni, parents, friends of the university, and other external constituents; diversifying outreach to employers who reflect the diverse interests and needs of the student body; leveraging alumni connections; and strategically building relationships with current and prospective employers as well as with key departments across campus.

The Associate Director also oversees all aspects of employer engagement activities, including new employer partnerships, job and internship development, on-campus interviews and recruiting events, career fairs and networking nights, corporate relationships, and other related programs.

The Career Center embraces the value of a Jesuit liberal arts education, which prepares students to discern their gifts and talents and how they want to use them to engage the world. As the Career Center is committed to addressing issues around diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of our work, the Associate Director is responsible for developing an overall strategy that proactively works to create and promote equitable and inclusive hiring practices. Additionally, the Associate Director also must be genuinely committed to engaging in meaningful dialogue and pursuing action that will improve social and racial justice.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a member of the Career Center leadership team, who will work together to ensure the Career Center develops a full range of programs, services, and resources to address the broad scope of students’ career needs and achievement of meaningful post-graduate outcomes.

  • Develop a strategic vision and direction to expand opportunities for employer outreach and engagement, internships, and post-graduation employment. Identify industries with the greatest growth potential for our student body and in alignment with BC’s expanding academic disciplines / departments; set ambitious goals for new employer relationships; and determine ROI and clear metrics of success and for all employer engagement touchpoints, including career fairs, networking events, and on-campus information sessions and interviews.

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the employer engagement team, including on-campus recruitment, recruitment-focused events, and targeted outreach to employers. Provide supervision for the employer engagement team, including four (4) professional staff members, one (1) graduate student, and up to three (3) undergraduate student workers.

  • Expand opportunities for interactions between employers and students through industry-specific career fairs, networking events, career treks, and other creative offerings. Serve as the primary point of contact for recruiting-related events and programs for one or more industry Career Clusters.

  • Proactively generate new employment leads across multiple career industry clusters through phone, email, online networking, and/or in-person outreach to create strategic relationships that will result in internship, part-time, and full-time employment opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students.

  • Collaborate with the leadership team of the Career Center, the Alumni Association, University Advancement, administrators and faculty to develop strong relationships with corporations, alumni, parents, and other members of the Boston College community.

  • Utilize technology (e.g., Handshake and PeopleGrove) to maximize opportunities for students to connect with employers, alumni, and organizations.

  • Regularly communicate key employer / recruitment trends and activity reports to the Career Center staff to help us remain informed and current on the industry information we share with students.

  • Collaborate with the internal diversity, equity, and inclusion committee to develop and implement an employer engagement-specific strategy that focuses on building strong relationships with organizations recognized for DEI efforts and expanding opportunities for students from underrepresented backgrounds.

  • Serve on and/or lead university-wide and regional or national professional association committees to raise awareness about best practices in our profession.

  • Each staff member in the Division of Student Affairs is expected to support division and university-wide initiatives, staff events, and serve on committees as needed.

Full-Time Equivalent Hiring Range: $87,050 to $108,800; salary commensurate with relevant experience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree plus 5+ years of experience in employer relations, corporate recruitment or another related role.

  • Master’s degree plus experience in a relevant field is preferred.

  • Proven track record of successful employer engagement initiatives, including the ability to develop and articulate a strategic approach for employer relationship building, to establish new meaningful employer relationships, and to bring together key stakeholders for facilitating student employment success.

  • Proven track record of collaborative team leadership with a results-focused orientation, including ability to manage, coach, and develop staff.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, writing and presentation skills.

  • Proven ability to make ethical decisions, especially regarding fair and open recruiting policies; proficiency in discerning the appropriateness and integrity of employers of interns and graduates.

  • Demonstrated skills in program management and assessment.

  • Experience managing professional and student staff, and a proven ability to lead and provide clear direction to others

  • Demonstrated comfort and previous experience using technology to engage employers and students. Adept in using online platforms and applications including but not limited to: Handshake, PeopleGrove, LinkedIn, Google applications [Drive, Hangouts, Documents, Sheets, & Forms], and Microsoft Office applications [Word, Excel, & PowerPoint].

  • Appreciation and understanding of the value of a Jesuit, Catholic Boston College education to prepare students for careers and lives of meaning and purpose.

  • Commitment to working with diverse populations (e.g. students of color, LGBTQ+, first generation) and proven track record of developing relationships with inclusive employers.

  • Knowledge of current trends, research, and best practices within both the employment community as well as student populations.

  • Ability to adapt and change with organizational needs and to use data to make informed decisions.

  • Flexibility to accommodate a degree of evening and weekend commitments; some travel is expected.
