Job Description

Reporting to the Vice Provost for Faculties, the Director of Faculty & Academic Affairs is responsible for the management and oversight of all centralized faculty-related administrative, human resources, and policy-related functions in the Provost’s Office, especially relating to faculty recruitment/searches, hiring, payroll, leaves and sabbaticals, promotion and tenure processes, the annual review and merit increment process, and data collection and review.

The Director works closely with Vice Provosts, Deans, Associate Deans, Department Chairs, Directors, Faculty, and Administrators, serving as subject-matter expert on faculty-related policies and procedures, and ensuring smooth and even application of institution-wide policies and compliance with applicable federal and local laws. The position provides high-level guidance, training, and assistance to the academic areas, centers, and programs reporting directly to the Provost. The Director works closely with Human Resources (HRIT, Employment, Benefits, Service Center), Office of Sponsored Programs, Office of Institutional Diversity, Information Technology Services, Risk Management, School Service Centers, Institutional Research & Planning, and the Budget Office.

The position requires frequent communication with external vendors as Boston College’s primary representative on various technological initiatives related to faculty, such as annual reporting and faculty search processes.

The individual may serve as University representative of record for faculty unemployment claim hearings.

Additionally, the Director sits and serves on numerous cross-university committees.

The individual will be responsible for hiring, training, and supervising one permanent staff member as well as graduate research assistants and undergraduate student workers.

Full-Time Equivalent Hiring Range: $85,750 to $107,200; salary commensurate with relevant experience.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree required. Doctoral degree in higher education, educational research, management, or a related field preferred.

  • Minimum of 7-10 years of progressively responsible professional experience in Faculty and/or Academic Affairs at an institution of higher education.

  • Demonstrated experience developing, managing, and overseeing policies for a wide variety of constituents.

  • Significant experience managing complex projects, including spearheading new initiatives related to policies, technology, and institutional procedures.

  • Outstanding record for gathering, editing, analyzing, and interpreting qualitative and quantitative data as well as preparing reports and presenting findings and recommendations clearly and diplomatically, and in a variety of formats.
