Job Description Boston College Libraries seek an experienced leader for the position of Head Librarian, Collections to direct and plan the Libraries? collection development strategies and activities. This role establishes policies, priorities, and strategies for collection development and maintenance, and works collaboratively with the Heads of the Educational Initiatives and the Digital Scholarship departments as ?Cohort Leads? to all of the liaison librarians. This ?cohort? model, initiated in 2019, has proven to be successful at cultivating the work of liaison librarians by jointly supervising and supporting them in the three primary areas of their responsibilities: Collection Development, Teaching and Learning, and Digital Scholarship. Working in this shared leadership model calls for flexibility, true collaboration, and a desire to enrich the outcomes of the work of library liaisons as they manage ever-increasing demands and expectations. This position is a key stakeholder/library leader in all collections-related initiatives taking place at the University, notably the Schiller Institute for Integrated Science and Society (program opening Fall 2021). The interdisciplinary focus of this program calls for collaboration and support by multiple Liaison Librarians, coordinated by the Head. Key responsibilities include: ? Working closely with the Associate University Librarian for Collection Services and the Head of Resource Acquisition & Management, identify strategic directions for collection building and collection/budget management and ensure effective stewardship of University allocated funds. ? Oversee and participate in the management of the budget (ca $12,000,000). The Head of Collections allocates monographic subject funds and, in collaboration with the Budget Group, monitors and manages expenditures of the collections budget, including endowment and end of year funds. ? Provide analysis, evaluation, and reports on the collection and expenditures for library materials. ? Work with Access Services, Metadata, and Electronic Resources to manage ongoing space planning challenges. ? Represent Boston College in collaborative collections work, such as the Boston Library Consortium Heads of Resource Management, the Eastern Academic Scholars? Trust (EAST) print retention program, and the Northeast Regional Libraries consortium (NERL)/Center for Research Libraries (CRL). ? Act as the liaison librarian for a limited subject area (to be determined), and provide coverage as needed for vacant liaison positions. ? Represent the University Libraries at regional and national collections conferences and workshops. ? Provide direct supervision of all Liaison Librarians, with support and input from the Heads of Educational Initiatives and Digital Scholarship.
