Job Description

Boston College Men’s and Women’s Full Time Head Alpine Ski Coach


Boston College is currently seeking applicants for the James R. Maher Head Coach for Men’s and Women’s Alpine Skiing. This is a full-time position with university benefits. The role provides in-season management August through May with administrative planning, training, and recruiting during the off-season months. The position reports to the Associate Athletic Director for Marketing and Sales. The position oversees a technical ski coach position, a graduate coach position, and a student manager.


The Head Coach is responsible for providing vision and leadership in all aspects of the program, with a primary focus on the development of the student-athlete and the program as a whole. This includes being highly organized with the management of the operating budget and gift accounts with the sports program administrator, coordination and management of off season, pre-season and in-season training, all aspects of recruiting, travel for practices and competitions, planning, coordination, and monitoring of progress with student-athlete learning resources, strength and conditioning, sports medicine, and the equipment room, and provide video tutorial support of training and competitions.

Additionally, the head coach develops and manages dryland and in-season and offseason workouts, maximizes opportunities for student athletes with training and competitions, provides training plan for those not competing, manages relationships with Health Services, Residential Life, Student Affairs, Admissions and other appropriate departments to facilitate program development and management. The head coach works to foster a positive relationship with former student-athletes, alumni and parents to maintain strong connection with the past program and the athletic department..

Competitive salary commensurate with relevant experience.



A Bachelor’s degree is required with 2-4 years of coaching experience.

Minimum 200 level USSA Certification.

Coached FIS in a competitive environment at a high level.

Collegiate ski racing or higher competition preferred.

The candidate will have a strong background in alpine ski racing, and knowledge of latest trends within the industry.

Successful candidates will be self-motivated and possess the ability to recruit and coach highly talented student-athletes who can succeed in a challenging academic environment.

A knowledge and commitment to EISA and NCAA rules and effective communication skills is required.

Additional required skills and abilities

Strength training experience with writing fitness programs and overview wellness programs for student athletes.

The flexibility to work both nights and weekends especially during the academic year is required.

The ability to set-up and execute training and competition travel logistics and be flexible with impact of weather or other circumstances that may arise.

Candidates must be equipped for regular physical exertion, skiing, exposure to weather and light lifting (50 pounds).
