Emerson Hospital Pharmacy Technician In-Training in Concord, Massachusetts

Under the strict regulations set forth by the Board of Pharmacy for individuals “in-training” to become a Pharmacy Technician, this person must work under the direction and supervision of a Registered Pharmacist. Utilizes established policies and procedures to assist other Technicians to maintain and distribute appropriate quantities of medications to patient care units, special services and other areas throughout the Hospital complex.

Under general supervision, observes the preparation of the medications dispensed by the Sterile Prep Rooms of the Pharmacy, such as large and small volume parenterals, chemotherapeutic preparations, parenteral nutrition solutions, irrigations, skin tests, etc.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education/ Experience:

  • Knowledge and ability generally acquired through a high school diploma required.

  • Training as a Hospital Pharmacy Technician preferred.

  • Minimal job experience required.

  • Familiarity with medical/drug terminology and abbreviations preferred.

  • Ability to walk and stand 90% of the day and to occasionally lift up to 30 pounds.

    Licensure and/or Certification:

  • Prepared for examination by the Comm. of Massachusetts, Board of Pharmacy Registration within 9 months from date of hire.

  • Prepared for Certification by National Board Examination (PTCB) within 6 months from date of Registration.

    Skills: Interpersonal skills sufficient to collaborate, communicate with other health care personnel

    Speak, Read and Write in English

  • Works in an area with some discomfort due to dust, dirt, temperature, etc.

  • Possibility of cuts from broken glass, and some exposure to hazardous chemicals.

  • Occasional contacts with employees outside the Department.
