Deaconess Abundant Life Communities Staff Development Coordinator in Concord, Massachusetts

Rivercrest is seeking a Full-Time Staff Development Coordinator to join our Skilled Nursing Team

As Staff Development Coordinator (SDC) develops, implements, and maintains an effective onboarding, orientation, and training program for all new and existing staff, consistent with their expected roles. Implements programs designed to provide knowledge and awareness by educating, coaching and verifying staff performance to ensure best practices and compliance with facility policies and procedures and regulatory mandates.


  • Must be a Registered Nurse with a current Massachusetts license

  • Must have graduated from an accredited nursing school. Minimum of three years of nursing experience (Assisted Living or Long-Term Care preferred)

  • Knowledge of EOEA Regulations for Assisted Living (A/L) and DPH Regulations for Level 4 Rest Home

  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both written and verbal

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all personnel; possesses qualities of integrity, compassion, empathy and is able to communicate effectively with residents and their families

  • Ability to work independently; ability to make appropriate decisions quickly during times of emergency.

Staff Development Job Duties:

  • Identify and prioritize the facility’s educational needs through the completion of an educational needs assessment, based on the annual Facility Assessment.

  • Plan, schedule, conduct, and oversee departmental orientation programs for all Rivercrest staff, in collaboration with Human Resources Dept.

  • Plan, organize and implement ongoing education and training programs for clinical and non-clinical staff to promote the knowledge and skills necessary for the provision of quality care and services consistent with the mission and standards of the organization. Develop and maintain monthly and annual training calendar.

  • Develop and provide refresher training, as necessary, for all staff. Ensure staff education and skills validation regarding patient care procedures and equipment.

  • Track attendance/ completion of training to ensure that all required training is received by all staff in a timely manner.

  • Review content of in-person and online education to ensure the information reflects current standards of practice and facility policies and procedures. Develop or revise content as needed.

  • Serve as administrator for electronic learning system (Relias Learning). Review, determine and schedule annual required training modules. Run reports for compliance. Support staff in utilization of electronic learning system or other online education.

  • Work with Administrator, Director of Nursing, and department managers to assure staff compliance with annual education requirements. Maintain compliance reports.

  • Collaborate with the Director of Nursing and department managers for developing competencies required for meeting residents’ needs. Ensure clinical competency of nursing staff through observed skills evaluation, and ensure completion of annual competency assessments for clinical staff. Evaluate staff competencies, or arrange for appropriate Evaluator, depending on the knowledge-based, technical, or behavioral nature of the competency.

  • Schedule training with flexibility to ensure limited disruption of resident care, and ample opportunity for staff to attend. Post notices of trainings in advance.

  • Maintain all training records, reports, instructional materials, and speaker qualifications related to each educational program. Provide opportunities for staff to obtain continuing education credits for maintaining certifications/licensure. Maintain attendance records and individual training records in accordance with facility policy.

  • Coordinate and/or conduct annual CPR training for licensed personnel and applicable non-licensed personnel.

  • Perform any other duties or responsibilities that may become necessary or as directed by the supervisor.
