DDS would like to announce the availability of a full-time Vocational Instructor A/B position working for the North Shore Enterprises at Hogan Regional Center.

This work place supports many individuals with various support needs including those individuals in crisis, many with violent and extreme behaviors and individuals with high medical and/or physical support needs. The incumbent will* *provide and monitor supports to individuals with intellectual disabilities, many with extreme and violent behaviors, many with physical, emotional, and/or medical support needs; assure correct implementation of work supports, use of equipment by direct provision and observation, assist in the implementation of behavioral programs; perform crisis intervention, and respond to severe and challenging behaviors, assist in lifting, moving, positioning individuals; maintain confidential records of individuals; attend individuals’ review meetings; assist individuals in meeting his/her personal care and nutritional needs as it occurs at work or in the morning when assisting people to prepare for work; assist and support individuals in making choices; maintain individuals’ rights by complying with applicable regulations; transport individuals to work by walking, driving, or transporting by wheelchair; and perform other related work as required.

A criminal background check (CORI) will be completed on the recommended candidate as required by the regulations set forth by the Executive Office of Health and Human Services prior to the candidate being hired. In addition, Chapter 234 of the Acts of 2014, An Act Requiring National Background Checks, requires the Department of Developmental Services to conduct fingerprint-based check of the state and national criminal history databases on the recommended candidate. ALL EMPLOYEES ARE PAID ON A BI-WEEKLY BASIS AND MUST HAVE DIRECT DEPOSIT.

This is a Civil Service Position. If there is no Civil Service list for this title, employees appointed must take and pass the next Civil Service examination when administered.

SCHEDULE:

Full-time – 40 hours per week.

Monday through Friday – 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM

Days off – Sunday and Saturday

MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:

REQUIRED WORK EXPERIENCE: At least one year of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience working with individuals with mental retardation, developmental disabilities, mental illness, and/or blindness; in vocational or industrial training; or in vocational or industrial instruction.

SUBSTITUTIONS:

  • An Associate's or higher degree in industrial arts or vocational education may be substituted for the required experience on the basis of two years of education for one year of experience.

  • One year of education equals 30 semester hours. Education toward degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.

LICENSES: Based on assignment, travel may be required. Those employees who elect to use a motor vehicle for travel must have a current and valid Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator's license or the equivalent from another state.
