ABOUT YOU

As the Safety Specialist for Airport SMS, you are a detail-oriented and analytical thinker who excels at identifying risks, improving systems, and ensuring safety through collaboration and data-driven solutions. Your ability to communicate complex safety concepts clearly allows you to engage effectively with leadership, frontline employees, and external stakeholders. Adaptable and proactive, you respond to incidents with a calm, systematic approach while maintaining a long-term focus on risk mitigation. With a strong understanding of airport operations and regulatory frameworks, you navigate complex environments confidently, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and operational safety.

What you will do:

  • Implement, maintain, and improve the Aviation SMS Program by applying FAA regulations, industry best practices, and safety standards.

  • Identify and mitigate hazards through data analysis, risk assessments, and proactive safety initiatives, ensuring compliance across all airport areas.

  • Collaborate with internal teams, external stakeholders, and regulatory agencies to align safety programs and enhance operational safety.

  • Conduct training, audits, and incident investigations to strengthen safety culture, improve risk management, and support continuous improvement efforts.

WHAT YOU OFFER

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in aviation and/or safety.

  • 3–5 years’ experience in safety program development, aviation operations, or a related industry, with at least 1–3 years’ safety management systems or risk mitigation.

  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain required security clearances, a Massport Security Badge with Class 2 airfield driving privileges, and a valid Massachusetts driver’s license within three months.
