Family Service Association - Fall River Teacher in Fall River, Massachusetts

Family Service Association is seeking a full time (35 hrs/week)Teacher for our Kids Academy program.  The hours are Monday - Friday, 9:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.   

Job Summary :

Oversee the day to day functioning of the classroom and ensure the safety and wellbeing of the children at all times, being alert to the needs and/or problems of the children as individuals as well as a group. Instruct children in activities designated to promote social-emotional, physical, and intellectual growth.                       

Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Supervise and ensure the safety and well-being of the children at children at all times within the proper ratio, including accompanying children to instructional activities, outdoor play, bathroom, etc..., Be consistently alert for the needs or problems of the children as individuals and as a group.   

  • Plan individual and group activities, including meal and snack time.  Ensure scheduled activities are implemented consistent with consideration of individual needs and goals, using a multi-disciplinary approach.  Alternate periods of gross motor with periods of rest or light activity.   Communicate and consult with Assistant Teacher with other classroom staff to coordinate play and discovery.

  • Foster warm, relaxed, non-threatening atmosphere in classroom.  Develop warm relationship with each child, treating each with respect. Interact with children in a positive, constructive way, including sitting at meal and snack time and modeling good manners and nutrition habits.  

  • Help plan curriculum each month in line with EEC Standards and Guidelines.  Prepare and implement lessons plans and learning areas in a timely manner with input from all group members.  Develop and implement lessons as needed.  Insure that all decisions and plans are approved by the Education Coordinator.

  • Complete all documentation and provide to supervisor in a timely manner, including goal sheets, progress reports, time sheets, and anecdotal notes based on observations.  Update children’s records as needed.  Maintain individual child portfolios and NAEYC Classroom portfolios.   Prepare and hand in Newsletter. Document any concerns, problems and activities with the children or conversations with parents, and promptly inform the Education Coordinator.

  • Ensure that injuries are reported immediately and accident reports are filled out that day.

  • Decorate room with thematic unit, using children’s art-work including Parent Boards. Maintain equipment and daycare property. Keep classroom neat, clean, safe, and orderly.  Completes a safety check of the classroom and playground first thing in the morning. Maintain inventory of the First Aid Kit, reporting any shortages in writing to the Education Coordinator.

  • Instruct the overall reinforcement of learning concepts for children, including self-help skills, and assist children in developing habits of caring for self and their belongings.  (ie brushing teeth after meals and snacks)  If applicable, feed, wash, and change children.  

  • Ensure timely and effective communication from the administrative staff to other teachers, Teacher Assistants, Volunteers, and Student Interns. 

  • Attend all staff meetings and participate in Professional Development training as required, in compliance with the state regulations, QRIS and NAEYC.

  • Use positive approaches to help children behave constructively, i.e., re-direction, planning ahead, encouragement of appropriate behavior and pro-social skills. Use discipline according to the disciplinary policy.  Report any significant behaviors to the Education Coordinator or Assistant Director.

  • Communicate effectively with parents, including informing parents of their children’s progress through Teacher-parent Conferences.

  • Report to the Directors any special needs or problems of individual children or any cases of suspected child abuse or neglect.

  • Be familiar with and follow all polices and regulations.  Conduct self in professional manner at all times.

  • Respond to reasonable expectations of the Agency and/or supervisor

  • Directly supervise Foster Grandparents, Floats, Teacher Assistants, Volunteers, and Student Interns (if applicable), and evaluate employee job performance annually. 

  • Make necessary referrals for Speech, OT, behavior, etc.

    Education and Experience:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age or have a high school diploma or equivalent.

  • Must meet Department of Early Education and Care TQ Qualifications.

  • CPR and Frist Aide

All employees must successfully pass a CPS, CORI/SORI background and fingerprinting check.
