General Statement of Duties: As full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor in Computer Science, you will be assigned to teach up to four courses offered by the department each semester (12 credit-hours) in computer hardware (including hands-on laboratory courses in digital electronics and computer organization), computer programming and other courses that meet the needs of the department. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute in the development of curriculum for the two undergraduate degree programs (Computer Science and Computer Information Systems) and the Computer Science Master?s degree program. Supervision Received: Department Chair of Computer Science Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Teaching load: four courses per semester (12 credit-hours) and preparation for classroom and laboratory instruction. 2. Instructional responsibilities include teaching various laboratory-oriented hardware courses involving digital electronics, computer organization, microprocessors and programming courses. 3. Provide student assistance including academic advising. 4. Participate in curriculum review and development, program reviews and student outcomes assessment. 5. Attend and participate in university functions (commencement, convocation) and faculty, committee and departmental meetings. 6. Participate in scheduled orientation and registration programs. 7. Continuing scholarship and professional activities, which may include contribution to the content of the discipline, participation in or contribution to professional organizations and societies, public service and contributions to the professional growth and development of the university community. 8. Participate in curriculum review and development, program reviews and student outcomes assessment at the university, department and Liberal Arts and Science curriculum levels. 9. Opportunities to teach summer, winter term, online, and undergraduate and graduate evening courses. Requirements: 1. A doctoral degree or ABD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or closely related field; commitment to excellence in teaching; and evidence of scholarly and professional activities. Research focus should be in an area of computer science or computer engineering that adds breadth to our program. 2. Ability to teach hands-on laboratory courses in digital electronics and computer organization is required. Practical experience using laboratory equipment such as development systems with solderless breadboards, oscilloscopes and logic analyzers is also required, as is the ability to guide students through the process of building circuits using digital logic ICs, programming FPGAs and writing programs in Verilog or VHDL. 3. Ability to teach courses in a variety of programming languages is required. 4. Preference will be given to flexible applicants who can develop/teach courses that contribute to our various programs. 5. Excellent verbal and written communications skills. 6. Ability to integrate appropriate instructional technology. 7. Commitment to excellence in teaching, demonstrated teaching experience appropriate to the level of appointment, and evidence of scholarly/creative activity. 8. Ability to work effectively with a diverse student body. 9. Must be able to satisfactorily pass a check conducted by the Criminal History Systems Board (CORI) as well as a completed background check satisfactory to the university. 10.
