Job Summary: The Director of Special Education is a member of the Senior Leadership Team under the supervision of the Chief Academic Officer. The Director of Special Education is responsible for the design, development, and implementation of special education processes, programs, and curricula to meet the varying learning needs of the students in the Foxborough Regional Charter School. The Director coordinates student placements in programs and articulates the district program with other schools and agencies. This is a role for someone who is equally a solid people manager, strategic thought leader, and implementer. The right candidate understands the art of using staff efficiently and effectively to meet the needs of students and ensure equitable distribution of caseloads. The Director is a problem-solver that approaches the work with design thinking and is energized by the opportunity to reimagine the district’s approach to serving all students and their families. Job Responsibilities: District Leadership & Compliance: Provide system-wide leadership for assuring the development of effective and appropriate special education programs and evaluate and monitor their effectiveness in terms of quality service to students Oversee the development and coordination of curriculum goals and objectives and distribution of instructional materials for the school's special education programs Stays up-to-date on and disseminates new laws, regulations, and research trends related to special education and monitors compliance with state and federal laws; Prepare reports, as required by local, state, or federal rule, regulation, or law, and any other reports as required by the District; Represent the District and cooperate with public and private agencies, organizations, and professional personnel in securing and providing services for Special Education students Provide leadership and system representation in matters relating to due process procedural safeguards Coordinates the development and maintenance of student special education files Facilitates communication and mediation with parents and advocates regarding the delivery of special education services Work with families to increase their engagement in their child's school experience Serves as 504 officer Advise the Executive Director and Chief Academic Officer on all matters related to Special Education Curriculum Oversee the development and delivery of differentiated curriculum and instructional practices within the educational program for special needs students Collaborate with school and district-level curriculum committees to develop plans and recommendations for the inclusion of students with disabilities in all aspects of the educational environment. Work with administrators and principals to provide leadership, professional development, and support for integrating special education services and programs within the regular education environment. Ensure that students with special needs have full access to the curriculum so that all students can earn proficient scores on the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS). Staff Supervision & Development Supervise special education staff Coordinates special education staffing allocation and ensures adequate staffing levels Design in-service and staff professional development for special education in coordination with the Chief Academic Officer, Director of Curriculum, and Professional Development Resource Development & Management Initiate and co-write Special Education and Title III grants; Develop and monitor Special Education budget expenditures; Plans and coordinates district-wide psychological services and provision of mental health services for special education Supervises: Special Education Administrative Assistant Assistant Directors of Special Ed School Psychologists Related Service Providers (i.e. OT, PT, SLP, BCBA) Teachers and Paraprofessionals assigned to substantially separate classrooms District nurse Qualifications- Required: Education: Hold a Master’s degree. Hold a Massachusetts Teaching License in Special Education Administrator At least five years of successful experience in some field of special education; and at least two years of successful experience as a school administrator or supervisor. Candidates are subject to background checks including, CORI clearance, and fingerprinting Current authorization to work in the United States - Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment. Qualifications- Preferred: Education: Doctorate degree preferred.
