South Middlesex Opportunity Council ESL Program Manager in Framingham, Massachusetts

SUMMARY Oversee daily activities of the English as a Second Language program at the Joan Brack Adult Learning Center. Maintain a safe, welcoming environment for ESL learners both online and in-person. Program quality is dependent upon well-aligned curriculum, effective delivery of planned lessons, documented assessment of measurable student learning and progress, continual program improvement and professional development. Coordinate and supervise volunteers and interns. Collaborate with other community-based ESL programs to strategize on providing learning opportunities for English as a Second language learners. Teach ESL classes. Paid time for any work performed offsite or outside of regular hours must be pre-approved in writing, by the Component Director of Education & Skills Training. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES ? Teach classes that meet for four hours per week on Zoom until returning to in-person learning ? Four hours of preparation and remote learning support per class. (16-24 hours per week) ? Coordinate recruitment, collection of applications, referrals, placement testing, intake, and enrollment, and attendance records of up to 60 ESL students per quarter ? Contribute to strategy and vision for the ESL program. ? Oversee evaluation of student progress and needs in order to provide appropriate curriculum/instructional methods. ? Review and approve class materials and develop curriculum. ? Recruit, manage, and develop staff by providing mentoring, training and performance management. ? Manage and mentor volunteers and interns by collaborating on lesson planning. ? Co-produce the Quarterly Celebrations and Celebration of Learning with the JBALC GED Coordinator. ? Work collaboratively with referring agencies and sources, as well as other SMOC programs and staff to strategize on ways to meet the needs of the ESL community. ? Collect student data, maintain student files and prepare reports in accordance with department and funder requirements. ? Ensure monthly/quarterly reporting is submitted in a timely manner. ? Participate in resource development activities; collaborative planning and data collection. ? Engage all clients by understanding and addressing their needs whether within or outside the scope of work. ? Attend & participate in team meetings as requested and communicate effectively with clients and staff in other areas. ? Maintain confidentiality of client, employee and agency information in accordance with federal and state laws and funder requirements. ? Ensure compliance with program/department, agency and/or funder requirements, as well as, SMOC policies & procedures. ? Other duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS ? Experience in curriculum development for ESL learners ? Ability to create lesson plans ? Aptitude to provide individual and whole class instruction ? Demonstrate sensitivity for English as a second language learners QUALIFICATIONS ? Bachelors degree desired ? Experience in management/coordination of ESL programs preferred ? Computer proficiency, especially MS Office products; Excel, Word, PPT, Outlook, Zoom ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP ? Directly reports to the Director of the Framingham Community & Cultural Center ? Direct reports of this position are ESL Instructors. ? Indirect reports of this position are volunteers and interns. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS ?
