Boston University NEUROLOGY RESEARCH SPECIALIST IV, School of Medicine, Anatomy & Neurobiology in Framingham, Massachusetts
The Framingham Heart Study Brain Aging Program (FHS-BAP) is responsible for neuropsychological, neurological, and brain imaging exams with participants in all FHS cohorts. We provide ongoing surveillance of participants who have been flagged as possibly having cognitive impairment. We also conduct consensus review of flagged participants to determine endpoints related to whether they have cognitive impairment/dementia, to what degree, and due to which etiology. FHS-BAP also provides infrastructure support for related ancillary studies that further contribute to FHS brain aging data resource. We are seeking a Research Specialist IV with clinical training (Nurse Practitioner, Physicians Assistant, Medical Graduate) for the the FHS-BAP. Core responsibilities include direct training and oversight of research specialists conducting structured neurological exams and brief structured clinical interviews about cognition with participants and informants. The Research Specialist IV will also conduct these exams and interviews and assist research specialists for more complicated cases. These examinations will take place at the Framingham Heart Study, although it may be required to make home visits as well on a regular basis. These duties are purely for research and no formal licensure is required. Additional responsibilities will include participation in diagnostic consensus conferences. The Research Specialist IV will be trained and supervised by the Study Neurologists and will work closely with senior leadership of the FHS-BAP Clinical Core. Additional responsibilities will include overseeing research specialists who are preparing case reports for dementia diagnostic meetings. It also includes participation in the hiring process of new research specialists and other staff, including conducting interviews. This job is in-person at the Framingham Heart Study in Framingham, MA. This multi-faceted position requires someone who is mature, independent, self-initiating, and comfortable working in an unstructured, non-traditional, dynamically evolving research environment with little supervision. Proficiency in a 2nd language desired but not required. Licensure not required.
