Job Description:


Greenfield Community College's Department of Adventure Education and Outdoor Leadership has been preparing students to enter the outdoor adventure education and recreation industry as qualified professional leaders since 1980. We offer an Associate's in Science Degree in Adventure Education, a Certificate in Outdoor Leadership, and several nationally recognized skills certifications and trainings for working outdoor professionals.


Under the supervision of the Adventure Education Department Chair, the Equipment Room manager is responsible for the maintenance, organization, repair, and inventory management for all equipment used by students, staff, and instructors in OLP courses.


  • Maintain secure and organized gear room, gear shed, boat yard, and classroom;

  • Interview, select, mentor, and train gear room work study students;

  • Assist students throughout day in learning techniques and lessons associated with ADE/OLP;

  • Assemble all necessary and desired gear for trips, field work, practice, and daily activities needed for ADE/OLP;

  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with college employees;

  • Conduct inventory at beginning and end of each semester and submit to ADE Department Chair;

  • Maintain log of repairs of all gear;

  • Maintain, repair, and discard gear as needed;

  • Communicate with instructors on needs of gear;

  • Assist with transportation of gear and students as needed;

  • Ensure use of log, safe practices, and necessary use of climbing wall, challenge course, and all gear maintained by ADE/OLP;

  • Assist instructors, staff, and ADE Department Chair with necessary tasks;

  • Ensure ADE/OLP is performing all essential tasks, safety procedures, and operating within guidelines of college, state, and federal policies in regards to- gear, gear repair, and other items as directed by leadership; and

  • Coordinate students in cleaning of areas used by ADE/OLP.



  • Extensive knowledge of outdoor equipment management and repair including rock climbing equipment, backpacking and camping equipment, canoes, kayaks, paddles, backcountry skis, snowshoes, camping stoves, canoe trailers, challenge course equipment and all other equipment used by the ADE/OLP Department;

  • Three or more seasons of employment working with and maintaining and repairing outdoor equipment;

  • Strong skills using tools to repair outdoor equipment;

  • Solid organizational, time management, and communication skills; and

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and be self-directed.


  • Prior experience (employment or training) with a program similar to ADE/OLP;

  • Wilderness First Responder Certification;

  • Successful experience providing logistical support for an outdoor adventure program;

  • Commitment to the mission of the community college;

  • A demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion in the workplace; and

  • Associate's degree or higher in a related field.

This is a part time, non-benefited position entailing approximately 10-15 hours/week during the fall and spring semesters.

Salary: $15 per hour
