We seek leaders who are committed to the community college mission, actively engaged in promoting diversity, and prepared to use their unique strengths and innovation with the goal of student success. * Job Description:* POSITION: Full-Time Academic Center Advisor: Academic Counselor; Student Success Hub Advising; Haverhill (100 Elliott) and Lawrence Campus' (45 Franklin Street); MCCC/MTA Unit Professional Position; 37.5 hours per week, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, & Friday 9:00am - 5:00pm, Wednesday 11:00am - 7:00pm (on the Haverhill Campus); Pay Grade 5 SUMMARY: The Academic Center Advisor is responsible for providing degree pathway and course selection guidance to students who are assigned to the College's Academic Centers, including assisting with online and current continuing students. Using a holistic advising philosophy, the Academic Center Advisor will prepare students to make informed decisions regarding their academic path at NECC. The Academic Center Advisor will collaborate with Dean of Liberal Arts and Liberal Arts Center Coordinator to participate in events within the Center for Liberal Arts, stay informed of curriculum changes, and help develop retention strategies for continuing students who are in good standing. This position will also engage in interventions to focus on students at risk of falling into academic jeopardy. This position will work under the direction of the Director of Transfer, Articulation, and Academic Center Advising to support NECC's Integrated Student Experience by providing advising support to the Center for Liberal Arts. RESPONSIBILITIES: Specific duties for this position include: * Work closely with the Center Coordinator and faculty Program Coordinators and Department Chairs to coordinate advising efforts in the Center for Liberal Arts, which is overseen by the Dean of Liberal Arts. * Hold advising hours in the Center for Liberal Arts. * Serve as a resource for Faculty in the Liberal Arts division and Enrollment Services Staff with regard to academic advising of students, procedures, policies and transfer information. * Consult with Liberal Arts faculty and the Dean of Liberal Arts regarding degree pathway changes or requirements or other relevant advising matters in the Liberal Arts Division. * Conduct Enrollment Service functions such as course registration, changes of major, etc. * Provide information to students regarding programs, services offered, and registration for courses during one on one and group advising sessions. Through scheduled advising appointments, online advising, campus events and on a walk-in basis. * Evaluate student high school and college transcripts for prerequisites, transfer credit, and placement waivers. Provide transfer and course information to students to facilitate a smooth transition into and from NECC to students' institutions of choice. * Provide students with information on the MassTransfer Policy, including approved A2B Linked and Mapped Programs, Additional Transfer Agreements as well as the Commonwealth Commitment Program under the Mass Transfer Policy. * Assist students who receive military benefits in connecting with the Veteran's Coordinator. * Work in conjunction with the Advisors in the Student Success Hub. For instance, helping to organize advising and registration events, as well as updating the Advising Team on course/pathway information, and relevant changes. * Follow and implement the Academic Standards and Progress policy and procedures. Including monitoring and using interventions (making phone contact, in person meetings, email communications, etc.) for students who are not meeting the requirements of the policy. * Assist in basic Student Financial Services conversations relevant to the advising process such as payment information, FAFSA information, Academic Appeals, and the student's completion rate percentage when applicable. * Counsel students on the benefits of state and federal programs such as MassReconnect, MASSGrant Plus, MASSGrant Plus Expansion, etc. * Assist with the development and implementation of training workshops for faculty, staff, and students. * Provide information about and refer students to appropriate campus resources. * Provide students with information on community agencies as found on the NECC Student Support website and/or referring to the Community Referral Advisor, Coordinator of Community Referral, or through a Care and Concern Outreach Team form. * Assist at college-wide orientations and transfer Events. * Assist with projects and college-wide initiatives as assigned. * Use Banner, Degree Works, EAB Navigate, Zogotech and other software as applicable. * The Classification Specification is available at: Counselor - HB 1051.doc PLEASE NOTE, WE DO NOT REVIEW APPLICATIONS SUBMITTED THROUGH MASSCAREERS. PLEASE APPLY VIA THE LINK BELOW: Requirements: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: * Master's degree in Education, Counseling, Human Services or related field is required. * A minimum of three (3) years of experience involving college admissions, academic advisement, and/or career development. * Candidate must have strong interpersonal and communication skills. * Adaptability and flexibility are essential. * Ability to relate and work well with a diverse population of students, faculty and staff. * Experience working with and building relationships with faculty. * Have considerable knowledge of college regulations and policies pertaining to Higher Education (FERPA, academic standards, financial aid, placement testing, retention initiatives, etc.). * Working knowledge of PC applications and BANNER Students Information Systems or related systems required. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: * Bilingual (English/Spanish) * Experience in a community college environment * Knowledge of curriculum/programs in the Academic Centers to which the Advisor is assigned * Experience working with remote platforms such as Zoom, Google Meet, Teams, etc. BACKGROUND CHECK: Candidates will be required to pass a CORI and SORI check as a condition of employment. * Additional Information:* GRADE AND SALARY: Anticipated salary range is $64,292 to $69,266 (MCCC Pay Grade 5 with a Master's degree) annually with complete fringe benefit package.
