School Based Services Behavioral Interventionist (FT 10 month) in Holyoke, Massachusetts

The Center School, a private Special Education day school in Holyoke, MA, seeks candidates for Full Time, 10 month Behavioral Interventionists to serve students from ages 5 to 22 who present with a wide variety of moderate to severe special needs. Interventionists provide behavioral, direct care and academic support to students at The Center School, and may also be transitioned to support school district programs in the Greater Springfield area through our School Based Services organization. Applicants must have a minimum of a High School Diploma/GED; college coursework and/or degree preferred. Passing score on Work Keys Assessment or two years of college/48 credits required. Strong verbal and written communication and teamwork skills required. Prior experience working with moderate to severe special needs students preferred. NOTE: All candidates who have been given an offer of employment will be subject to screening through the following agencies: CORI, SORI, DCF, SAFIS (Fingerprinting) Position Responsibilities: - Assists & supports Teachers with both classroom management and educational activities. - Provides behavioral (including physical restraints) & psycho-educational assistance to students failing to abide to school routines, program limits & structure. - Implements & role models the program model skills. - Completes all required & requested daily documentation (e.g. dailies, incident reports, intervention reports, etc.) & assures documentation is submitted to appropriate location. - Provides transportation for students as requested, in keeping with school policies & practices. - Serves as 1:1 safety aides &/or academic aides as indicated by student need, providing monitoring & specialized direct care. - Plans, prepares & facilitates a variety of elective activities for students. - Sets up & serves breakfast, snack & lunch consistent with school policies & practices. - Supports students? daily routines, including eating, drinking, swimming, toileting (as needed). - Facilitate and/or assist in educational groups as requested. - Maintains the safety of the building & utilizes safety protocols including (but not limited to) safety/sharps checks, proactive de-escalation techniques, etc. - Attends & participates in all scheduled supervision, staff meetings & trainings. - Provides mentoring & role modeling for new staff. - Supervises students that participate in vocational activities. - Plans/facilitates/supervises special events as requested (e.g. field trips, community celebrations). - Communicates to Supervisor, Teacher, Case Manager and/or Clinical Team on the same business day any pertinent student information in order to update daily routine, academics & interventions. - Communicates to supervisor immediately any information of an emergency nature such as allegations of abuse, self-abusive statements, etc. - Transfer classroom & site assignment as indicated by student needs.
