State of Massachusetts Clinical Instructor - Staff Development in Holyoke, Massachusetts

The Soldiers’ Home in Holyoke is seeking an engaging, collaborative, and experienced clinical educator. This individual will plan, develop and coordinate education programs for all staff within the facility. Additionally, the incumbent will plan and conduct in-service trainings for new and existing employees, as well as educational programs and competency measures for clinical staff. *Schedule:* * This is a full-time (40 hours/week) position working from 7:30 am – 4:00 pm * Note: This is a 24 hour/7 days a week facility. The Soldiers' Home in Holyoke may require this individual to be present during nontraditional hours when circumstances dictate the operational need *Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):* * Plans, develops, coordinates, delivers and provides both clinical and non-clinical education for all new employees to acquaint them with Home’s policies, procedures and the overall operation and inter-relationships of services * Plans, develops and provides orientation for all new RNs, LPNs and CNAs to orient them to nursing policies, procedures, standards, practices/techniques, regulatory requirements, etc. * Assists department heads/supervisors in developing a department/unit specific orientation for all new employees * Conducts ongoing nursing education; e.g., new procedures, new products, changes in policy, TJC CMS and DPH standards, and CEU programs * Provides/arranges in-services, workshops and educational programs for nursing staff that maintains and fosters innovation in veteran resident care * Confers with unit supervisors, department heads and administration to delineate the need for employee training and education and to design programs aimed at increasing job efficiency and improving morale * Develops training manuals, examinations, visual aids, references and other training materials * Participates and chairs nursing committees and meetings related to nursing education as appropriate * Represents the Home at vocational, professional and educational meetings, seminars and workshops, as required * Develops and maintains a reporting mechanism to apprise administration about training needs, outcomes and training statistics at least quarterly * Mentors the nursing staff * Participates in a schedule on weekends or other shifts as required for educational trainings *Required Qualifications:* * Knowledge of training methods and techniques * Ability to conduct and plan training and instruction in nursing * Ability to prepare and use charts, graphs and tables * Ability to maintain accurate records * Ability to work in a team setting *Preferred Qualifications:* * Master's degree or relevant level of clinical expertise in a health-related field preferred * Knowledge of the principles and practices of nursing * Experience working in a long-term care healthcare setting * Ability to analyze and determine the applicability of medical data, to draw conclusions and make appropriate recommendations * Ability to explain the policies, procedures, specifications, standards and guidelines governing the Home * Ability to understand and apply the laws, rules and regulations governing the Home * Proficient in Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel and Outlook *About the Holyoke Soldiers' Home:* The Soldiers' Home in Holyoke is a state-funded, fully accredited health care facility that offers veterans quality health care, including full-time residential accommodations, and provides educational and social services for Veterans in the Commonwealth. MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must have at least (A) three years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience as a registered nurse in a recognized hospital, clinic or medical facility, and (B) of which at least one year must have been in a supervisory, administrative or managerial capacity or as an instructor in nursing, or (C) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below. Substitutions: I. A Graduate degree with a major in nursing may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required (A) experience.* Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed. NOTE: No substitutions will be permitted for the required (B) experience.
