POSITION OVERVIEW The Instructional Leadership Specialist for Mathematics will provide comprehensive instructional support and coaching to PK-8 teachers as they work to enable all students to meet rigorous standards for mathematical content and practice. Responsibilities: The Instructional Leadership Specialist for Mathematics will maintain a schedule of work that includes planning, supporting teachers with the learning-teaching-coaching model, leading professional development, leading grade level data analysis cycles, facilitating vertical department planning, managing mathematics materials, and other duties as needed and assigned. As an advisor to the faculty and leadership team, the ILS will play a central role in the following areas: Curriculum Develop a robust and coherent approach to mathematics instruction that maps back from Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks for Mathematics and builds from pre-kindergarten through grade eight Collaborate with teachers and Fellows to effectively design and enact learning experiences, both formal and informal, that are responsive to the needs of students and the context in which learning is taking place Work with teachers and Math Fellows to plan for differentiated lessons based on individual student?s needs Lead school-wide shift to Math in Focus curriculum in collaboration with school and district leadership Instructional Leader Support the development of teachers? use of mathematics instructional practices through one-on-one modeling, co-teaching, observation and feedback Lead teaching teams in regular cycles of data gathering, analysis, and response Develop and implement systems for peer observation and shared reflection Lead teachers in collective examination of artifacts of teaching and learning, and collective reflection on pedagogical practices Identify and develop instructional strategies and intervention programs for struggling students, including, but not limited to, direct supervision and management of the Blueprint Math Fellows Program Collaboration and Communication Page 2 of 3 Maximize opportunities for student success by creating positive working relationships with students and their families, and by participating in the development of family mathematics activities Actively participate in the establishment of school-wide policies and procedures Collaborate closely with the school leadership team in a shared decision-making and learning process Collaborate with ELL and Special Education teachers to integrate and adapt strategies to support all students in mathematics Share student progress reports with school leadership and classroom teachers In pursuing these activities, the ILS will work collaboratively with school administrators and the instructional leadership team to align school structures and systems, to assess progress, and to plan for next steps Required Qualifications: Certified Teaching License Master?s Degree in Education with a focus on Mathematics, or equivalent At least 4 years of teaching experience with a strong focus on best instructional practices in mathematics At least 2 years of experience leading teachers to achieve strong academic results (background as a Math Specialist/Math Instructional Leadership Specialist highly preferred) Flexibility, resourcefulness, and the ability to manage multiple meetings, schedules, communication with various school personnel, and to take on various roles in the school as needed Experience building trusting relationships with teachers, administrators, coaches, families, and community partners Experience serving students with special learning needs, as well as English Language Learners Experience working with schools that are underperforming Experience planning, developing, and leading teachers in formal professional development, conducting classroom walk-throughs and observations and providing feedback on the use of mathematics instructional practices based on classroom observations Deep
