Paraprofessional - Classroom POSITION SUMMARY The Paraprofessional-Classroom is responsible and accountable for providing students with a safe, loving, stimulating, and nurturing environment. The Paraprofessional-Classroom works closely with the classroom teacher and the school administration team. The Paraprofessional-Classroom ensures the schools and SABIS image, brand, philosophy, systems, policies, and procedures are properly implemented and observed. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Position duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: Student Academic Achievement: - Supports and assists the classroom teacher in the implementation of the goals and objectives of the SABIS? curriculum and philosophy; - Willingness to lead classroom activities as directed by the classroom teacher; - Assists the classroom teacher in creating smooth transitions from one activity to another; - Assists the classroom teacher in the preparation of materials and activities for the classroom. Classroom Management: - Executes appropriate and positive discipline strategies in the classroom when directed by the classroom teacher; - Assists in the supervision of students during lunch, recess, and when students are entering or leaving buses, or while otherwise on school premises, including duty with extended day before and/or after regular school hours within the duty day as directed by the classroom teacher or school administration; - Applies school and classroom rules consistently and effectively; - Utilizes preventative discipline when directed by the classroom teacher; - Motivates and engages students; - Communicates expectations to students early; - Establishes and maintains a positive classroom environment conducive to learning; - Manages emergency situations confidently and calmly; - Supervises students within the school setting and on school grounds. Required: - Minimum: Associates degree or equivalent; - Must possess specific skills and knowledge in reading, writing, mathematics and instruction to be considered qualified to assist in instruction; - Ability to meet multiple demands from various individuals and interact with parents and other staff in a professional manner; - Experience working in a school environment preferred. - And much more. Working in classrooms with florescent lighting. Duties are performed indoors and occasionally outdoors.
