DESCRIPTION Assists in the day-to-day operation of the classroom. Helps to maintain a learning environment that is suitable to the social, emotional, physical and intellectual needs of each child. JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Assists with supervising the children at all times Maintains a warm, safe, clean and healthy learning environment Assists with snacks and meal times Participates in a team approach to Early Childhood Education with other staff Communicates with Lead Teacher/Director I, Teacher and other team members on an ongoing basis. Performs related duties to assist with the smooth operation of the classroom and implementation of the curriculum Implements recommendations and requirements from supervisory staff Follows Cape Cod Child Development Programs procedure for reporting cases of suspected child abuse or neglect JOB REQUIREMENTS Must have the ability and desire to work with at risk children and families, have an understanding of Early Childhood philosophy and the principles of fully including children with special needs. Must be able to work well with preschoolers and their parents Must be able to work well in a team-teaching atmosphere Must exhibit good judgment, be organized, flexible and possess a professional attitude Must be able to adapt well to change in classroom routine and new situations Must maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job Must have good communication skills and be able to follow oral and written directions Must maintain all staff health and safety requirements MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Must be 18 years old with a High School diploma or GED preferred Prefer experience with young children PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Must be able to lift a child weighing up to 40 pounds Must have accurate or correctable auditory and visual abilities to observe children and maintain safety On an infrequent basis, must be able to respond rapidly to safeguard children during an emergency, including threat of fire, disaster or imminent danger. Emergency response may require running, carrying or lifting children. Must be able to react quickly to prevent injury or harm to a child On a moderate to frequent basis, must have the agility to move quickly to reach a child who may need assistance Must be able to stoop, squat, sit or otherwise closely interact with children Must be able to bend, reach, stretch and participate in play and other activities, both inside and outside Must be able to accompany and quickly access all areas where children may be located including classrooms, bathrooms, steps or stairways, entrances, buses and outside play areas or field trip locations Other duties and responsibilities reasonably related to the job will be assigned.
