DCAMM is a central agency in implementing several key policy priorities of the Healey-Driscoll Administration, including promoting decarbonization and climate resilience in all state facilities, identifying and facilitating opportunities to repurpose underutilized state property for housing production, and increasing the participation of underrepresented groups in public construction contracting and in the public construction workforce. _Position Summary_ The Motor Equip Mechanic IV is responsible for inspecting, operating, and repairing a variety of heavy motor-driven equipment, including backhoes, front-end loaders, dump trucks, snowplows, and grounds maintenance equipment. This ensures the smooth operation of Surplus Property staff and the DCAMM tool lending program (Interagency Tool Barn). Duties include performing diagnostic repairs, preventive maintenance, and routine servicing of vehicles and equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation. The position also maintains accurate records, provides training on safe equipment operation, and advises on equipment purchases. Additional responsibilities include maintaining equipment inventories, securing and maintaining grounds, assisting in landscape work, and performing repairs on buildings and facilities. This is an Emergency Personnel position; the incumbent is expected to report to duty when the Governor states that only Emergency Personnel are to report to their jobs during certain Governor-declared emergencies. _General Statement of Duties and Responsibilities _ * __Perform diagnostics, repairs, and inspections on motorized vehicles and other equipment; perform scheduled preventive and emergency vehicle maintenance and repairs; schedules vehicle and equipment repair on priority basis to enable staff to continuously perform duties without interruption; replace tires and batteries in vehicles and equipment; change and repair tires, adjust brakes and clean and lubricate parts to ensure optimum working order. Perform maintenance and repairs to ensure safe & efficient equipment operation. * Perform equipment repairs such as: replace or adjust gasoline or diesel engines, carburetors, distributors, alternators, generators, starters, differentials and transmissions per manufacturer’s specifications. * Operate DCAMM’s interagency equipment “Tool Barn” lending program – maintain and deploy equipment; train borrowing personnel in safe equipment operation. Issue and receive equipment from DCAMM’s lending program. Maintain equipment inventory; record equipment condition and report to the Tool Barn manager when damage is incurred to facilitate financial recovery. Arrange for manufacturer repairs. Assist and advise on heavy equipment and other equipment purchases; assist in the solicitation of equipment bids. * Maintain electronically a parts list inventory for all vehicles and equipment. * Operates power equipment to clear snow, repair pavements, or assist in related grounds maintenance. Maintain grounds; perform landscape work such as trim brush, cut grass; plow snow, sanding, set up, move furniture, and equipment. * Maintains repair and maintenance schedules and reports emergency and routine repairs to tools and equipment such as mowers, plow blades, and leaf catcher buckets to tractors, trucks and others. * Secure and maintain OFM grounds and buildings in daily work assignments with minimal supervision; perform maintenance and repairs on sites and buildings; report visible building damage or changes in appearance; maintain grounds; assist trades workers and licensed personnel as needed. Question unfamiliar individuals when encountered on state property and report suspicious activity to the Assistant Facility or Facility Manager. Minimum Entrance Requirements: Applicants must have at least (A) four years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in the repair, maintenance and overhaul of automobiles, trucks, bulldozers, cranes, front end loaders, etc. of which (B) at least two years must have been in a supervisory capacity, or (C) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below. Substitutions: I. A certificate or diploma from a recognized trade, technical or vocational school at the high school level or above with a major in automotive shop practice may be substituted for one year of the required (A) experience. Special Requirements: Based on assignment: 1. Possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Class B Motor Vehicle Operator's License. 2.
