Greater Lawrence Community Action Council Assistant Teacher in Lawrence, Massachusetts
We are looking for a Teacher Assistant to join our team! Under the direction and guidance of
the Lead Teacher/Teacher, the Teacher Assistant will assist and implement overall
programming, activities and maintain a healthy and safe environment in the assigned
classroom. This position will assist in all aspects of the classrooms daily routine including
curriculum planning, completing weekly lesson plans and collaborating on activities.
Assist and implement classroom activities including observing, talking, eating with the
children ?family style?, supervising children in their acquisition of self-help skills (e.g.
dressing, toileting, washing hands etc.).
Must facilitate positive interactions with children and promote learning across all
developmental domains by assisting with planning and facilitating activities.
Responsible for maintaining daily attendance, records and child supervision.
Communicate all daily events/happenings with primary classroom teachers.
Participation in child assessment responsibilities is required which includes child
observations, screenings, data input and checklists.
Responsible for assuring the health and safety of the children at all times is mandatory.
Must be 21 years of age, have a high school diploma or equivalent, and meet one of the
following sets of requirements: Bachelor Degree/Associate?s Degree in Early Childhood
Education or a related field; Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential and three months supervised work experience or equivalent with either infants/toddlers or preschoolers, valid
EEC Teacher Certification and 6 months of supervised work experience with children under seven years of age. Must be willing to pursue higher educational goals to meet requirements set forth by QRIS, EEC & NAEYC for position.
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and be physically able to lift/carry/assist young children and perform diaper changing duties.
Must be able to work flexible hours according to program needs, be a positive teamplayer, and demonstrate patience, empathy and kindness.
Must show documented proof of current physical exam, negative TB test, proof of MMR immunity and valid First Aid & CPR certification. (Hepatitis B immunity is advisable.) EECBRC
(CORI) check will be completed before hire.
Must have a suitable CORI, SORI & DCF background check on file prior to employment.
Must have a suitable fingerprint check completed within the first thirty (30) days of employment.
This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or
move items over 50 pounds.
Travel may be required.
