Greater Lawrence Community Action Council Kindergarten Teacher in Lawrence, Massachusetts

The Kindergarten Teacher will assist and implement overall programming and activities and maintain a healthy and safe environment in the classroom that promotes positive child outcomes.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The Teacher is responsible for the overall program in his/her class.

  • Assuring the health and safety of the children at all times and this includes arranging/maintaining a safe, clearly defined classroom environment, which is developmentally appropriate and conducive to learning.

  • Plans, coordinates, and facilitates daily activities, assisting children in classroom learning activities, both small/large groups and on an individual basis.

  • Leads team in reviewing children?s experiences and planning the educational program.

  • Maintains ongoing observation and anecdotal records of children to use in curriculum planning and progress reports.

  • Maintains children?s attendance, meal attendance records, and keeping clear and concise documentation of required records.

  • Facilitates the development of self-control in children by using consistent, positive guidance techniques such as; listening, reinforcement and redirection.

  • Responsible for the daily supervision of teachers, teacher aides, trainees and interns.

  • Have regular two-way informative interactions with the parents of children in his/her class, assume certain administrative responsibilities including: planning of field trips, inventory of classroom supplies and equipment.

  • The Lead is also responsible for keeping daily attendance records of the children which are appropriate to the ages, size of the group, and the abilities of the children and to carry these through to completion and following the guidelines set by the Department of Early Education and Care and NAEYC standards.

  • Must follow all the center?s policies and procedures at all time along with nutrition guidelines and meal service.

QUALIFICATIONS

Must be at least 21 years of age, have a Baccalaureate Degree/Advanced Degree in Early Childhood Education/ Child Development or Bachelor?s or advanced degree in Early Childhood Education. K-3, Teacher of Young Children with Special Needs Certification from the Department of Education, Elementary, or in a related field of study, must meet current DOE, Department of Early Education and Care and NAEYC staff requirements for position.

  • Must be able to work flexible hours according to program needs, be a positive team player, and demonstrate patience, empathy and kindness.

  • Must be to perform diaper changing duties.

  • Must be able to participate in classroom housekeeping duties in all areas, able to use bleach/cleaning solutions for sanitization purposes, be capable of hearing and seeing the children to monitor their health and safety.

  • Must be able to meet the physical demands of an active learning environment which include, but are not limited to bending, sitting, walking, standing for 30 minute intervals and ability to get up and down.

  • Attendance at relevant trainings, meetings, Open House/Family Nights and special events required.

  • Engage in ongoing staff development to improve professional skills.

  • Flexible schedule is required to meet the needs of our children and families; including some evenings/weekends.

  • Ability to read, write, and express oneself in English required.

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) desirable.

  • CPR and First Aid certificate preferred or ability to maintain CPR/ FA within 30 days of hire.

  • Show documented proof of current physical exam, negative TB test and proof of MMR immunity. (Hepatitis B immunity is advisable).

  • Must have a suitable CORI, SORI & DCF background check on file prior to employment.

  • Must have a suitable fingerprint check completed within the first thirty (30) days of employment.

  • Travel is required for home visits, meetings, training, and off-site events.

  • This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 50 pounds.
