Join an exciting new nonprofit higher education venture with Station1, founded by Professor Christine Ortiz at MIT who focused on broadening access and inclusion, pedagogical innovation, and enhancing quality of higher education. Station1, a fiscally sponsored project of TSNE MissionWorks, is building a foundation for the university of the future ― a scalable model of higher education based on inclusion and equity, learning through frontier project-based inquiry and research, and the integration of science and technology with humanistic studies for societal impact. Station1:

  • Creates and implements transformative programs that educate a diverse range of students, in particular those who have lacked opportunity in their lives and education, which foster meaningful careers and lives in our changing world;
  • Carries out specialized higher education projects, for example in the areas of postsecondary finance, blended learning, and computer-assisted curriculum design, and;
  • Collaborates with partners across academia, industry, and the public sector to catalyze and foster access and advancement of science and technology-focused higher education.
Position Summary

The Summer Program Residence Advisor opening provides an opportunity to participate in an extraordinary green-field project with a trajectory for national and international social impact. Participating in the inaugural program of Summer@Station1, a 10-week residential STEM program, you will play an essential role in delivering a distinctive and outstanding program experience to our undergraduate Summer@Station1 Fellows.

Serving as a steward of the overall student residence experience, you will use your personal and professional strengths to identify resources and design programs and activities that support students. Focused on creating a high-quality experience for students, and constantly looking for ways to enhance the student experience, you will collaborate with our housing partners and other organizations and businesses in Lawrence to fulfill our promise to students of a semi-independent, fully supported summer program. Your time will be spent developing and executing residential programming and managing student housing, in addition to student-facing engagement and support efforts. This includes working closely with the Station1 team to report on student experience and identify areas of improvement for student living. You will also be responsible for developing meaningful relationships with our students, but remain an authority whom will be their first point of contact for any issues that may arise in relation to their residence at the Riverwalk Lofts during their participation of the program. Salary is commensurate with experience.

Responsibilities
  • Manage Station1’s residential/community program including:
  • Design and deliver needed life-skills and community-building workshops (at least one informal evening social event per week);
  • Coordinate student move in and move out;
  • Create and run resident orientation;
  • Respond to and manage roommate conflicts and mediations;
  • Arrange Lawrence and Boston-related outings;
  • Serve as primary on-call professional on nights (7:30pm-6:00 am) and weekends for the 10 weeks the program is in session (June 8th to August 15th).
  • Provide student-focused support to other program elements by engaging in regular communication with students to get feedback and ideas; identify student needs and support opportunities and work with broader team to problem solve;
  • Manage Station1’s residential property including: coordinate implementation and support for residential life policy and procedures to ensure compliance with city, state and federal laws, and Station 1 needs;
  • Communication with Riverwalk Lofts staff and security in order to maintain compliance with rentals.
Qualifications
  • Prior experience in residential life programming and/or administration highly preferred;
  • Strategic relationship-builder with outstanding interpersonal and persuasive communication skills;
  • Strong organizational skills, excellent with details and follow-up;
  • Enthusiastic to engage with college-aged students and maintain a happy, healthy, and safe environment;
  • Collaborative team player;
  • Residency in eastern Massachusetts;
  • Available for the full 10 week program, June 8th-August 15th including trainings in May in preparation for the program launch;
  • Available for 20 hours per week, including regular weekly meetings;
  • Available on weekday evenings and weekends, as well as on-call commitment;
