MIT Lincoln Laboratory Digital Engineering Program Development Lead-Technical Staff in Lexington, Massachusetts
The Digital Engineering Center is a transformation Group within the Engineering Division (Division 7). Division 7 works in partnership with the other Laboratory technical divisions to design and build advanced technology systems of national importance. The Division’s expertise includes mechanical, materials, aero, thermal, optical, control, and fabrication engineering plus energy and autonomous systems. Supporting the engineering efforts are a wide range of specialized laboratories, electronics and mechanical fabrication capabilities, plus integration and environmental test facilities. Special emphasis is placed on the integration of design and analysis capabilities to support the rapid prototyping of hardware systems.
Position Description
The Digital Engineering Center is currently seeking a motivated person to lead Digital Engineering related program development with the objective of maturing and demonstrating digital technology, such as integrated Modeling and Simulation capabilities, and Digital Twins, while furthering the Laboratories mission areas. This staff member will lead digital engineering engagement activities that strengthen and develop our relationships within the Laboratory, with current DoD sponsors, and with potential new partners. This staff member will research trends in digital engineering, build relationships with potential sponsors and other organizations developing digital engineering capabilities, identify and pursue new program opportunities, develop strategies for maturing key digital technologies, create proposals, and close on program creation.
Key Responsibilities
Monitor, track, and analyze digital engineering trends and approaches, initiatives, technology development, and other Digital Engineering activities in the DoD, industry, national laboratories, and related communities
Identify potential new development areas, and assess landscape to find opportunities for digital technology development and demonstration
Align the Laboratory strategic goals to these digital development areas
Proactively source new sponsors through engagement within the Laboratory, external networking, cold calling, attending government and industry events, and utilizing online platforms
Establish and maintain strong relationships with potential sponsors, key decision-makers, and partners to foster trust and loyalty
Craft compelling proposals that address needs, highlight benefit and return on investment, and outline project scope and cost
Deliver persuasive presentations to prospective sponsors, showcasing the Laboratory’s digital capabilities and technologies
Develop goals for new program development, craft forecasts, and monitor progress against targets
Identify opportunities to maintain long-term relationships with sponsors
Work closely with other Digital Engineering Center teams and Laboratory groups to align strategies and execute initiatives
Participate in appropriate local professional associations, conferences, and consortiums to maintain high quality national contacts and awareness for Digital Engineering opportunities for the Laboratory
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, physics, mathematics, software development, or other technical field; advanced degree desired (in a STEM field or MBA)
5+ years working in an engineering role in prototype development or digital technology development; additional 5+ years in program or business development
Experience engaging with DoD sponsors and industry leaders
Understanding of national landscape and trends in Digital Engineering, Digital Twin, Digital Thread, and other digital technology
Confident independent people-person with ability to create self-generated networks and conversions from cold calling; ability to build rapport in new relationships
Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required; ability to represent the Digital Engineering Center and brief large audiences and senior officials with aplomb

Presentation skills and ability to articulate complex ideas clearly
Proficiency in sponsor-relationship management and program development methodologies
Experience with developing Modeling and Simulation capabilities, Digital Twins, and other Digital Technologies
Strong teaming and collaboration skills, especially with staff in numerous roles at all levels in various types of organizations
Advanced analytical and problem-solving abilities
Strategic/critical thinking skills, creativity, debate, respectfully challenging sponsor thinking, and fact-based analysis of alternatives is required
Strong work ethic and results-oriented mindset
Proven leadership skills in a variety of roles
This position reports directly to the DEC Group Leader.
