Tufts Medicine Clinical Dietitian - Oncology in Lowell, Massachusetts

We are seeking a Clinical Dietitian with strong Oncology experience working in all phases of treatment: Survivorship Care, Medical Nutrition Therapy and Nutrition Support.

Reporting to the Oncology Nutrition Manager, Head and Neck Program Manager, this role works closely with the multidisciplinary healthcare team to provide patient care that is integrated and compatible with the patient-focused medical goals and objectives. Primary responsibilities: application of the Nutrition Care Process (NCP) including completion of the nutrition assessment, determination of the nutrition diagnosis, development and implementation of the nutrition intervention(s), and monitoring and evaluation of the patient’s progress. Serves as a clinical professional to medical staff and allied health personnel on oncology nutrition issues.

Hours: Part-Time / Days / 24 hours a week

The Clinical Dietitian:

  • Conducts a nutrition assessment for patients at nutritional risk. Obtains timely and appropriate data and analyzes/interprets data based on evidence-based standards.

  • Performs nutrition diagnosis after identifying the problem and clarifying the cause of the problem with in the context of cancer and cancer treatment.

  • Develops and implements an individual plan for nutrition intervention in accordance with the patient’s medical goals and objectives, nutrition prescription and education needs. May require development of a therapeutic plan for specialized nutrition support, including enteral and parenteral nutrition support and home care services. This includes patients on treatment, pre and post treatment, Breast Cancer Survivorship program.

  • Utilizes assessment and evaluation techniques that consider varied needs of age-specific populations as well as cultural, religious and ethnic concerns.

  • Evaluates the effectiveness and measures progress towards outcomes of medical nutrition therapy interventions. Reassesses nutrition care process and implements changes as indicated.

  • As needed, delegates or coordinates nutrition plan of care with other healthcare professionals, including coordinating care with other dietitian(s) across the continuity of care. Supports nutrition care to inpatient admissions.

  • Assesses educational needs and provides nutrition counseling with the patient and family as needed, using up-to-date materials and evaluates effectiveness of the education. Develops patient education and/or resources as needed.

  • Participates and/or develops Quality Improvement activities and submits as assigned.

  • Communicates and influences nutrition interventions determined by the medical team through participation in multi-disciplinary meeting and clinics, quarterly Cancer Committee meetings, chart rounds, tumor board meetings, medical conferences and oncology staff meetings.

  • Maintains productivity standards and practices effective time management and prioritizing of tasks. Manages own schedule and patient case load appropriately to meet consult demands, initial assessments and follow up visits, and other activities.

  • Serves as nutrition resource and expert to others, inducing students, medical staff, health professionals, and/or general public. Conducts in-services and educational presentations to hospital/department staff.

  • Participates in community projects and education as needed/assigned.

  • Maintains dietetic registration and continuing education requirements.

    Qualifications

  • License Dietitian in the state of Massachusetts

  • Registered Dietitian

  • 2 -3 years of Oncology experience in all phases of treatment, Survivorship Care, Medical Nutrition Therapy and Nutrition Support

  • Bachelors in Nutrition is required, Masters preferred
