Mystic Valley Regional Charter School 2020/2021 Instructional Assistant in Malden, Massachusetts

The Instructional Assistant is required to complete instructional tasks under the general supervision of a teacher and non-instructional tasks under the general supervision of the School Director and/or Designee.

Essential Functions:

  • Attend in Professional Development training provided by the school.

  • Support daily classroom design established by the teacher.

  • Group Work (while teacher is presenting)

  • -reinforce learning posture (students are on task, attending, tracking, on the right page, etc.

  • -monitor students and make note for those not proficient or at mastery for teacher

  • -provide assistance to those students that are not at mastery.

  • Independent Work

  • -monitor student work to ensure they understand and are following directions.

  • -assist students by helping them locate answers and work out problems

  • -check, record, and/or grade.

  • Work Check

  • -assist students with correcting their work

  • -note students who have not completed work

  • -check, record, and/or grade

  • -assist with monitoring paired reading activities

  • -assist with administering checkouts or retests per teacher.

  • Teach reading, language, math, reasoning and writing, and/or spelling groups assigned by PDC.

  • Support teacher through daily activity schedule.

  • -listen to directions given by teacher and quietly redirect students who need support.

  • -pass out tickets or follow system by teacher to help students follow directions.

  • K-2 Instructional Assistants will attend and assist with implementation of all specialty classes.

  • -Monitor? do not sit at desk or use as planning unless you ask specialist

  • 3-6 Instructional Assistants, who have own groups, will have a planning period for no less than one half hour per day designated by the Lead Teacher or PDC.

  • Participate in assigned morning, lunch/recess and afternoon bus duties.

  • Attend ?Back to School Night? and open houses.

  • Attend Holiday Performance and High School Graduation Luncheon.

  • Perform all duties designated by schedule assigned by the Lead or classroom teacher.

  • Perform additional duties stated by the School Director, Asst. School Director, Business Manager, and Professional Development Coordinator.

  • Support Behavior Management

  • Support and adhere to School Policies and rules.

  • Complete (if designated) peer practice sessions for half an hour each week.

  • Complete (if teaching a group) four progress reports and four report cards for all students in the academic group(s) for each school year.

  • (If teaching a group) Document lesson progress daily and submit to the Lead Teacher and PDC weekly.

  • (If teaching a group) Document student progress daily/weekly.

  • The presence of the IA in the elementary school level classroom (grades K-2) is important in order to carry out the lesson successfully. In particular, their assistance is important regarding the supervision and attention of our special needs and low-achieving students. Often IEP students require individual attention, and the student would benefit if the IA would assist. This helpful assistance improves the students? ability to learn.

  • The manner in which the IA assists the Specialty teacher will be collaborative.
