State of Massachusetts Assistant Director of Remote Learning in Malden, Massachusetts
With the spread of the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19), among many disruptions to normal life, Massachusetts is currently in the process of reopening schools under conditions controlled by the trajectory of the virus. The Department developed guidance requiring school districts to plan for three models of learning: in-person, hybrid, and remote. Remote learning has become the default learning model in many districts that are still considered high risk or have extenuating circumstances.
The Assistant Director, Remote Learning will report to the Director of Remote Learning in the Center for Strategic Initiatives. The selected candidate will work with the Director of Remote Learning and other agency leaders to support the ongoing development and implementation of the agency’s strategy, guidance, and support for remote learning in K-12 schools across the Commonwealth.
Specific responsibilities of the candidate may include:
Monitor remote learning-related workstreams across the agency for progress, identifying areas for collaboration across teams, as well as areas that need more resources.
Project manage remote learning initiatives led by the Center for Strategic Initiatives, including progress monitoring, reporting, managing related contracts and communications, stakeholder engagement, administrative tasks, etc.
Support the Director of Remote Learning in assessing local, national, and international trends, emerging research and best practices, and relevant resources to inform ongoing remote learning strategy and identify opportunities to support remote learning efforts.
Analyze various sources of information to assess the implementation of remote learning efforts across the Commonwealth. This may include creating, distributing, and analyzing district, educator, student, and/or family surveys, conducting focus groups or individual interviews, attending stakeholder meetings, and/or identifying external sources of information. Use information to provide real-time updates on remote learning progress and to make recommendations for continuous improvement.
Support Director of Remote Learning with other priorities and projects, as they arise. This may include administrative support for managing multiple initiatives or projects, conducting research, and creating memos, presentations, and other documents related to remote learning.
Perform other duties as required.
The successful candidate will possess:
Experience working with a racial equity lens. Knowledge of combating implicit bias, cultural competency and leading conversations related to race and culture in educational systems and public forums.
Project management and implementation experience
Ability to balance big picture strategic thinking with close attention to detail
Ability to manage competing priorities without losing sight of vision, mission, and priority goals
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to new information and priorities as they arise
Ability to work and effectively communicate with diverse groups and stakeholders
Knowledge of or experience with digital learning and education technology
Experience working alongside and building relationships with multiple stakeholders, including students, educators, executive directors and/or superintendents, senior executive leaders, elected and appointed officials, community leaders,etc.

MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must have at least (A) five (5) years of full-time or, equivalent part-time, professional, administrative, supervisory, or managerial experience in business administration, business management, public administration, public management, clinical administration or clinical management of which (B) at least one (1) year must have been in a project management, supervisory or managerial capacity or (C) any equivalent combination of the required experience and substitutions below.
I. A certificate in a relevant or related field may be substituted for one (1) year of the required (A) experience.
II. A Bachelor’s degree in a related field may be substituted for two (2) years of the required (A) experience.
III. A Graduate degree in a related field may be substituted for three (3) years of the required (A) experience.
IV. A Doctorate degree in a related field may be substituted for four (4) years of the required (A) experience.
