Summary:
The mission of Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA) is to improve the health of our patients and communities. Cambridge Health Alliance is seeking a Career Pathways Mentor to join Community Health Youth Initiatives within the Department of Community Health (DCH). The Career Pathways Mentor will be part of the Career Pathways Program and serve as an integral member of this team that supports positive youth development, workforce development and health promotion. This position will collaborate with members of DCH, various CHA departments, and community partners in the service area to support current programs and initiatives that uphold and honor CHA’s mission.
The Career Pathways Mentor will be an individual with a passion for positive youth development and interested in supporting youth and young adults to develop the essential skills for employment and career readiness. This position is for someone who wants to work directly with youth, and supports CHA’s vision of equity and excellence for everyone, every time. With the program manager, the selected candidate will work with internal and external partners to implement and support the Career Pathways Program curriculum, while providing mentorship, leadership, and support for a cohort of youth and young adults to meet program and worksite expectations, workforce and career readiness skill development.
This position is 40 hours per week, 52 weeks per year and is dependent upon continued availability of grant funding. Position requires occasional evening and weekend work to support programming as needed. This position is eligible for an array of benefits available to full-time employees.
Qualifications:
Education/Training: College degree preferred, though relevant experience is highly valued and preferably with experience in public health, social work, healthcare, education, and/or human services; community health worker training and/or certification desirable.
At least 2 years of direct-youth programming experience in a youth-serving, workforce development, or community health environment.
At least 1 year of experience working within and/or navigating the healthcare environment preferred.
Demonstrated skills in youth development, including creating safe spaces and familiarity of youth development principles and models.
Familiarity and knowledge about the field of healthcare and navigation.
Understanding of and commitment to health equity and racial justice principles.
Demonstrated success working in collaboration, cross-sector and/or in coalition environments.
Familiarity with and knowledge of community-based organizations, programs, city governments and services in CHA service area.
Strong knowledge of the principles of outreach.
Strong communication skills and commitment to developing collegial and professional relationships with various stakeholder groups.
Excellent time management, organizational, problem solving and prioritizing skills; detail-oriented and efficient.
Competency w/ computer skills including Google products (docs, sheets, slides, etc.), basic design programs and social media.
High level of self awareness, curiosity and commitment to lifelong learning
Ability to travel to and among multiple sites within a workday located within the service area.
Ability to arrange and facilitate both in-person and virtual meetings.
Oral and written fluency in English. Second language desired, Spanish, Portuguese and/or Haitian Creole preferred.
Working Conditions and Physical Environment:
Close quartered/sometimes shared work space and/or capacity to work remotely.
Need to travel regularly around the CHA coverage area, including attending regional meetings.
Nights and weekend meeting attendance may be required, as needed.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a demanding environment; requires time management skills.
Able to carry, lift, or push supplies weighing ten pounds.
