The Department of Elementary & Secondary Education’s Center for Instructional Support is seeking a/contracted/employee to support a robust portfolio of work aimed at ensuring all students have excellent educators. This is a one-year, entry level opportunity focused on educator preparation (teacher, principal, counselor training) work/matters in the Commonwealth and is ideal for a novice educator, an individual with experience or interest in educator preparation, and/or someone looking to begin having an impact at a state agency.The individual in this role will be responsible for supporting the effective, efficient, and consistent review of educator preparation providers in Massachusetts, as well as real-time support to educators engaged in the required licensure tests. Working to improve the quality of educator preparation in Massachusetts is a key strategy in our commitment to disrupt systems of inequities and close persistent opportunity gaps in our state. We have significantly transformed the work of the state in this area over the last seven years and are beginning to see results within educator preparation providers themselves and in the impact their candidates have on PK-12 students. This individual will help continue and deepen our influence in this work. Description of Duties / Essential Functions 1. Providing internal support for all educator preparation program reviews in SY2021-22. This will include things such as (though not limited to): o Managing timelines for overlapping phases of review o Scheduling all technical assistance with educator preparation providers going through the review process o Pulling data, populating templates, and updating presentations based on knowledge of the providers and the process o Scheduling activities and managing the logistical details associated with the review process including virtual focus groups and interviews (e.g., setting up virtual meeting links, sending reminder emails, coordinating helpers for the virtual meetings, managing external reviewer participation) o Facilitating and/or taking real-time notes during virtual focus groups (may require occasional work outside of the 9-5 hour day) at such time, you can flex your schedule. o Ensuring coherence across reviews by communicating changes and updates with the Educator Preparation team o Maintaining document management systems, including working dynamically in Google folders, Dropbox, etc. o Drafting and copyediting communications to preparation providers re: formal approval processes and policies 1. Support help to teachers and leaders pursuing licensure tests and performance assessments. This will include the following: * o Monitoring and responding to inquires in the test help inboxes for the Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure (MTEL) and the Performance Assessment for Leaders (PAL) o Managing and responding to inquiries from candidates and preparation providers related to the Candidate Assessment of Performance online platform 1. *Additional projects as needed. Additional projects are not anticipated at this time but may be added depending on the needs of the agency. Minimum qualifications required at hire: * Demonstrated experience managing projects * Demonstrated experience with document management systems and applications such as Excel, Google, Dropbox, Microsoft Office * Familiarity or experience with educator preparation in Massachusetts Preferred Qualifications: Below are characteristics we will look for in the selection process.
