State of Massachusetts Director of District & School Accountability in Malden, Massachusetts

The Director of District and School Accountability will oversee two essential accountability functions for the Department: district reviews, as conducted by the Office of District Reviews, Monitoring, and Assistance, and the production of annual district and school accountability results, as produced by the Office of District and School Accountability Systems. These offices are charged with issuing reports and related analyses pertaining to specific areas of district and school performance, required by state and federal statute and regulations. Key Job responsibilities: Manage the activities around the implementation of the district and school accountability system, as required by state and federal law. This work will include supervising staff working on accountability analysis and reporting assignments, coordinating the production of annual accountability determinations and related analyses, communicating with internal and external stakeholders about the system design and its results; Manage the implementation of the district review process as required by state law. These duties will include supervising staff working district review assignments, the selection of districts for review, serving as the Department’s point of contact for districts undergoing a review, and providing oversight for the annual review process leading to the publication of the final district reports; Serve as a point of contact for internal and external stakeholders for matters related to accountability results and district reviews. Internal stakeholders include DESE leadership and other staff. External stakeholders include (but are not limited to) district and school leaders and other staff, executive office staff, vendors, school committee members, advocacy groups, and professional organizations Desired Knowledge and Skills: Ability to manage the implementation of high-priority, governed by state and/or federal law, projects; Ability to communicate highly visible and politically sensitive work with multiple diverse stakeholders across various organizations; Knowledge of education data collection and use to inform system development and policymaking; Commitment to using data (quantitative and qualitative) to set goals, measure results, make just-in-time course corrections and to learning; Familiarity with the operations of districts and schools; Demonstrated knowledge of anti-racist practices, especially focused on anti-racist and culturally proficient strategies, and commitment to bringing an anti-racist lens to the work; Demonstrated ability to work productively and collegially with individuals and teams; Strong oral communication skills, including public speaking and the ability to explain complex information to varied audiences; Demonstrated ability to efficiently generate written work products that communicate complex information in a concise, coherent manner; Ability to manage competing priorities; Questions regarding this position or the application process should be directed to MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must have at least (A) five (5) years of full-time or, equivalent part-time, professional, administrative, supervisory, or managerial experience in business administration, business management, public administration, public management, clinical administration or clinical management of which (B) at least one (1) year must have been in a project management, supervisory or managerial capacity or (C) any equivalent combination of the required experience and substitutions below. Substitutions: I. A certificate in a relevant or related field may be substituted for one (1) year of the required (A) experience. II. A Bachelor’s degree in a related field may be substituted for two (2) years of the required (A) experience. III. A Graduate degree in a related field may be substituted for three (3) years of the required (A) experience. IV.
