The Kaleidoscope Collective for Learning(Kaleidoscope) at the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) is an office that focuses on creatingtools, professional development and system-design support to ensure equitable access to Deeper Learning Experiences for all students in the Commonwealth. Over the past 2 years,Kaleidoscopehas worked with groups ofschools and districts working to cultivate learning experiences that advance deeper learning. In addition, Kaleidoscope has created a Deeper Learning Guidance Tool and series of protocols and resources to support the development of learning experiences that are grade-level, real-world, relevant, interactive, and grounded in equity and culturally-responsive pedagogy. The Educational Specialist C, Program and Data Specialist will provide program management, data analysis and technical assistanceto Kaleidoscope staff and schools and districts working with the Kaleidoscope Collective. Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to: * Contribute to the development of the Deeper Learning Instructional Vision, through design of tools and resources that outline steps for designing effective deeper learning units, related skills for effective facilitation of these units, and methods for ensuring all students achieve grade level learning targets. This includes support with the development of a user-friendly resource-bank for schools to implement Deeper Learning that includes: * o Examples of deeper learning units that reflect high-quality instructional materials o Resources (instructional tools, video library, coaching tools) for implementing these units effectively o Support the design and implementation professional learning modules o Review curricular materials and artifacts submitted by Kaleidoscope teachers and leaders o Analyze trends in instructional practices in artifacts, video clip submissions, and rubric scores * Support with operations of Kaleidoscope professional development programming and team projects, including communication, project planning, and program coordination. * Develop and support program evaluation and data analysis for Kaleidoscope projects o Create systems to collect and analyze qualitative and quantitative student performance data using traditional and non-traditional methods. o Create systems to collect and analyze qualitative and quantitative data to evaluate program success * Support with development of high-quality professional learning sessions for schools, including development of state-wide trainings and 6 annual multi-day Convenings for Kaleidoscope Schools. Perform other duties as required; and Based on assignment, travel throughout the Commonwealth may be required. Candidates meeting only some of these qualifications are encouraged to apply. * Experience as an educator and/or leader in K-12 public schools * Experience supporting schools and teachers with transition to standards-aligned curriculum * Experience working with an explicit equity-based lens, working on inclusive practices. * Knowledge of and experience with culturally responsive leadership. * Superior project management skills, managing multiple, shifting priorities in a high-demand, fast-paced environment. * Detail-oriented. * Excellent written and oral communication skills, including public speaking ability. * Strong ability to comprehend, analyze, and communicate complex data and information. * Commitment to setting and attaining ambitious goals. * Experience working with a range of diverse stakeholders and tailoring approaches and communication to successfully meet project goals and timelines. * Commitment to efforts devoted to closing the achievement gap and to addressing racial inequities in education. * Knowledge and expertise with racial equity, combating implicit bias, cultural competency and navigating issues and leading conversations related to race and culture in educational systems and public forums. * Ability to learn and build on the varying cultural and community norms of students, families, school districts and other community members through awareness of one's own cultural identity and views about difference * Ability to develop and deliver high quality presentations. * Ability to manage multiple programs and tasks and to work independently and collaboratively in a complex work environment * Knowledge of current state and national research on improving strategic initiatives, standards, programs, and assessments for college and career readiness. * Effective leadership that supports alignment to team goals and decisions. * Ability to adapt to changing needs, conditions, and work responsibilities. * Demonstrated ability to work productively and collegially with individuals and teams. Staff are currently operating within a hybrid model, telecommuting up to three days per week. First consideration will be given to those applicants that apply within the first 14 days. Minimum Entrance Requirements: Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree and/or at least four years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional educational experience in a specific or related content area, educational program/or service; A Master’s degree or higher in a specific or related educational content area may be substituted for two years of the required experience -- 30 semester hours equals one year of experience for substitution purposes. Education toward a degree in a specific or related educational content area will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed. Special Requirements: Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator's License or the equivalent from another state may be required.
