English Language Learner Teacher

The English Language Learner (ELL) Teacher is responsible for implementing Mystic Valley Regional Charter School?s (MVRCS) English Language (EL) program in Grades K-8. The ELL Teacher will support students through small-group teaching and assessment, data analysis, and coordination with the ELL Program Coordinator.


  • Execute a program of study that meets individual student needs in English language acquisition and application.

  • Deliver instruction using a modified version of the school?s Direct Instruction methodology.

  • Support students in gaining English fluency, allowing them to transition out of pull-out EL services.

  • Review EL curriculum annually; make suggestions for modification and/or extension based on efficacy as evidenced by student-level assessment results.

  • Deliver EL lessons and units of instruction that are based on clear learning objectives.

  • Assess student progress on a regular basis, providing progress reports as required.

  • Execute standardized testing, as directed by the EL Program Coordinator.

  • Collaborate and communicate on a weekly basis with the EL Program Coordinator. Topics for collaboration include, but are not limited to, curriculum, instruction, assessment, data analysis, and methodology.

  • Remain current with regard to technical procedures and governmental regulations in the field.

  • Assist and provide counsel to the Leadership Team in implementing all policies, procedures, regulations, and laws in the EL field.

  • Implement the school?s assertive discipline model for classroom management with fidelity.

  • Attend all staff meetings and participate in staff development programs.

  • Other responsibilities as assigned by EL Program Coordinator, Assistant Superintendent, and/or Superintendent/Director.

Requirements and Licensure

  • Valid Massachusetts Teaching license in ESL (All Levels) with SEI Endorsement.

  • At least a Bachelor?s Degree in the area of major study.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form.

  • Ability to write reports and correspondences.

  • Ability to evaluate information and determine/recommend an appropriate course of action.

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, staff and the community.

  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all school requirements, state and federal laws, and MVRCS policies.

  • Experience evaluating student skills and writing reports interpreting/summarize findings.

  • Strong collaborative, teaching, coaching, and leadership skills to support student programming and work in a team setting.

  • Strong problem-solving skills to support student success.

  • Strong organizational skills to balance the demands of a multi-tasking position.

  • A proactive and solution-focused approach to meeting student needs.

  • Knowledge of specialized content area as well as any related laws and procedures.

  • Ability to plan and implement lessons based on district and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned.

  • This position reports to the English Language Learner Program Coordinator. The position will be evaluated yearly and will be an annual appointment.
