State of Massachusetts Contract - College & Career Coordinator - Northern Sector in Milford, Massachusetts

DUTIES:

The primary role of this position is to coordinate post-secondary education and career advising to inmate students. The coordinator will use motivational interviewing with inmate students to set goals and establish long and short term career and educational plans. The coordinator will schedule and facilitate group and individual workshops as well as program orientation/information sessions, as needed. The coordinator will be responsible for creating and managing student documentation, reporting requirements, and inputting data using the Inmate Management System, as needed. The coordinator may be expected to support post-secondary courses including the supervision of tutors and professors on a case-by-case basis. This position supports the coordination of external partnerships including those with post-secondary institutions, career centers, and community employers. Familiarity with best practices in post-secondary preparation is encouraged, in addition to evidence-based practices in career preparation. This job is contingent upon grant funding.

The Massachusetts Department of Correction shall not hire anyone who may have direct contact with offenders, who has engaged in sexual abuse in a prison or other institution as defined in 42 U.S.C. 1997; or has been convicted of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable to consent or refuse, or has been civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in the activity described in the above paragraph. The agency shall consider any incidents of sexual harassment in determining whether to hire anyone who may have contact with offenders or residents.

MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:

Applicants must have a Bachelor’s Degree and some counseling and/or teaching experience. Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills are required. Demonstrated knowledge of the Internet is required. It is preferred that applicants have experience in career exploration and/or career interest assessment instrument, e.g. Onet Interest Profiler, Harrington O’Shea Career Decision Making. Experience working with ABE students and knowledge of institution schedules and procedures and principles and practices in correctional education.
