YMCA of Greater Boston Health & Wellness Engagement Coordinator in Needham, Massachusetts

Job Description

We are seeking a dynamic, motivated, energetic Certified Personal Trainer who will focus on new member engagement and client retention by building relationships so that members become connected and feel part of the YMCA family. If you’re passionate about inspiring others through fitness and believe in transforming lives through healthy living and innovative wellness programming, then the Charles River Y is the place for you! This is a full-time position, with an excellent benefits package. Hours will include afternoons and evenings Sunday-Thursday.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES/KNOW HOW:

  • Ability to interpret, carry out and implement into programs, the mission and goals of the YMCA.

  • Work as an integral member of a staff team.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with adults, youth, teens, seniors and special populations.

  • Computer literate – responsible for new member communications

  • Reasonable level of physical fitness

  • Enthusiastic, outgoing personality

  • Demonstrated ability to perform fitness assessments and to teach progressive exercise programs – knowledge of Functional Movement Screens is a bonus

  • Ability to instruct and observe participants using proper exercise techniques

  • Build a personal training clientele to include one-on-one and small group training – up to 25hours a week required by 8months of employment

  • Ability to create and monitor safe and effective exercise programs for individuals, as well as recognize a member’s potential and limitations

  • Highly motivated to sell personal training services.

  • Sales experience preferred.

  • Possess mature judgment and sound decision-making.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with members, peers and supervisor.

  • Must be observant, safety conscious and able to react calmly and quickly in an emergency.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Ability to physically and verbally interact with members and staff.

  • At times, be able to lift amounts up to 50 lbs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

  • Ability to be flexible to work midday, afternoons, evenings, weekends and holidays.

Requirements

  • Personal Trainer Certification required (ACSM, ACE, NASM, other accredited certification)

  • Bachelor’s degree in exercise science, or a related field from an accredited college or university.

  • Experience in instructing related programs preferred.

  • Group Exercise Certification preferred

  • Experience in personal training, and health and wellness programming.

  • Sales experience preferred

  • Child Abuse Prevention

  • CPR/AED and First Aid certifications

  • Ability to work afternoons/evenings/weekends

  • Demonstrated ability to perform fitness assessments and to teach progressive exercise programs – knowledge of Functional Movement Screens is a bonus

  • YMCA experience is a bonus
