Amergis LPN School 1.1 in Newburyport, Massachusetts

Amergis Educational Service is partnered with a school in Newburyport, MA that is currently seeking a School Nurse to assist them on a contractual basis.

Details of the position include:

Location: Newburyport, MA

Start Date: ASAP - June 2024, ESY: July 8-August 16, Fall: September-November 21st

Facility Type: Newburyport Public Schools

Pay: $45/hour

Schedule: ESY: Mon-Thurs 8:00-1:30, School Year: Mon-Fri 32.5 hours

Job Description: Need a 1:1 LPN for 21 year old male student as he attends his summer program. LPNwill also be needed in the Fall until student turns 22 years old on November 21st.

ESY program July 8- Aug 16th

21 year old male student. G-tube and seizure disorder. Needs g-tube feedings and seizure medication once a day. Non ambulatory and non verbal.

Experience: G-Tube and seizure experience required

The 1:1 School LPN/LVN identifies and treats health disorders among students in the school setting. The 1:1 School LPN/LVN provides instruction for the student’s general wellbeing and disease prevention. The School LPN/LVN monitors the student’s physical conditions in the school setting and refers the student to appropriate resources as needed. The work of the School LPN/LVN is performed in compliance with his/her LPN/LVN scope of practice and according to state education codes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides first aid care and medically prescribed services

  • Maintains security of school health supplies and medication in the school setting

  • Provides follow-up evaluations on students as required

  • Corresponds with parents on health needs of children

  • Records immunizations, health findings, and other relevant health data

  • Identifies abnormal growth and development, symptoms of disease and discuss with parents

  • Develops and maintains health records on students

  • Develops positive working relationships

  • Supports student medical needs during transport as applicable

Minimum Requirements:

  • Current LPN/LVN license for the state in which the nurse practices

  • Current PPD or Chest X-Ray

  • One year prior professional nursing experience in school setting preferred

  • Pediatric experience preferred

  • Current BLS card

  • Considerable knowledge of medical disorders and treatment

  • Considerable knowledge of child growth and development

  • Some knowledge of public health problems and procedures for treatment in coordination with other health and social service agencies

  • Some knowledge of Federal, State, and Local laws and regulations affecting the delivery of school health services

  • Understands the school organization and the community served

  • Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language is required

  • Computer proficiency preferred

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
