Saint-Gobain Research Technician – Inorganic Materials & Processing in NORTHBORO, Massachusetts
The Inorganic Materials and Processing group (IMP) at SGR North America is searching for a Research Technician. The IMP group supports Business Units in the development of ceramic powders and components for industrial applications including structural, thermal, electrical, and abrasive applications.
The Research Technician performs experiments involving ceramic processing and application testing of ceramic materials as well as the operation and maintenance of high temperature furnaces. This involves lab work, data acquisition, and/or product development activities with minimal supervision. He/she works with engineers and customers in solving problems related to ceramic processing or the performance of ceramic materials.-- In addition, this position may also perform specialized technical functions involving testing, analyzing, improving, installing, operating equipment and products for assigned areas.
Essential Functions
Operate and maintain high temperature furnaces used to process ceramic components.
Conduct experiments as assigned working with project leaders to develop new forming techniques, to conduct performance testing and to record data.
Primary areas of responsibility will be ceramic processing, measurement, and characterization.
Maintain laboratory equipment including set-up, operation and troubleshooting of experimental equipment or instruments. Lead troubleshooting initiatives and machine repair efforts. Perform preventive maintenance on equipment as required and maintain 5S within labs.
Required Qualifications
High School diploma or GED (demonstrated equivalent) required.
1-5 years of experience in manufacturing or research required.
Hands-on mechanical aptitude required.
Ability to collect, enter, plot and manipulate scientific data using Excel, Word, PowerPoint required.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Basic knowledge of operation and maintenance of high temperature furnaces preferred.
Experience forming components from ceramic powders preferred.
