What’s the job?

Come start a career with us at CertainTeed as a Take Off Driver. In this position, employees will be responsible for the operation of forklifts to transport and stack materials in a safe and productive manner.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Safely operate a forklift.

• Loading and Unloading Material (flatbed trailers, 53’ vans, and rail cars) from a dock and outdoor yard during all seasons and weather conditions.

• Read and understand what product(s) to select, how to load and unload trucks based on pick documents and bills of lading.

• Follows the Logistics Standard Operating Procedures, supports and maintains warehouse stock location system and code dates to ensure proper inventory turns and adherence to FIFO principles.

• Receives Incoming Finished Goods and Raw Materials and verifies accuracy.

• Provides general Customer Service to Customers and Transportation providers

• Ability to safely lift, carry, and stack up to 55lb bundles of roofing shingles/rolls.

• General housekeeping and all other related tasks as assigned

Schedule

• Monday-Friday, Saturday or Sunday depending on production needs

• Shift: 3rd shift

Compensation

• Salary: $24.87 per hour

• Annual year-end bonus

• Annual raises based on union contract

Qualifications & Skills:

• Minimum High School Education

• 2 Years of Warehouse/Supply Chain Experience

• 2 Years of Forklift Operating Experience

• Good working knowledge of Warehouse/Shipping policies, procedures, operations, and general transportation processes.

• Good oral communication skills

• Strong Teamwork skills

• Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment

• Ability to translate data into useful information.

• Excellent Attendance Practices Required

• Ability to deal calmly and effectively with high-stress situations, sensitivity to other’s needs, and positive demeanor.

• Use Mobile Order Picking System

Physical Requirements of the Role

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to walk. The employee is occasionally required to stand, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit and talk and hear. Other physical requirements include:

• Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 40 lbs without assistance.

• Ability to work from various squatting, kneeling, or bending positions.

• Ability to work with arms above head.

• Ability to perform all operations within acceptable quality and time standards.

• Ability to operate and understand the operation of all protective safety equipment in the area.

• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

• Hand-eye coordination.

Safety & Health

Follow the CertainTeed Health and Safety Rules, ensure safe operating conditions within the Shipping/Warehouse, and notify coworkers and supervisors of hazardous acts and conditions.- Proper use of PPE at all times.- Maintain a clean and safe working environment in line with the 5S philosophy.- Facilitate and/or participate in safety training and safety committee meetings.

Quality Assurance and Process Control:

Support a zero-defect system through process control, to minimize non-quality related costs and to improve customer satisfaction.- This requires defect-free work and an understanding of the requirements of the company’s quality system as it pertains to job duties and responsibilities.- Must be able to check work to ensure conformance to process control instructions, specifications, and quality standards.- Identify and segregate non-conforming products.- Identify the need for and assist in initiating and implementing corrective and preventative actions when appropriate.

Initiative:

• Actively participates in continuous improvement of products and processes to better serve customers and improve the overall profitability of CertainTeed.

• Actively seek out work in other areas when the current assignment is complete.

• Make suggestions for improving product quality, processes, safety, and company profitability.
