Berkshire Museum Curatorial Assistant in Pittsfield, Massachusetts

The Curatorial Assistant is responsible for assisting in the planning and implementation of exhibitions. Primary Functions and Major Responsibilities: Reporting to the Exhibition Manager, the Curatorial Assistant will work alongside the Collections, Education, Operations, and Programming teams to perform the following duties: - Assist in planning and preparing exhibitions: develop working and final checklists, label text, tracking project budgets, filing, and other work as assigned. - As needed, assist the Exhibition Manager to create and update exhibition installation schedules and production timelines. Monitor the status of other departments\' adherence to the schedule. - Assist in installation and maintenance activities in the museum\'s galleries. - Assist the Collections Department in maintaining comprehensive files pertaining to all exhibitions according to institutional guidelines. - As needed, performs original research on collection objects, including in part provenance, place of origin, date, material and technique, artist and exhibition history and bibliography. - Provide administrative support to Exhibition Manager, including drafting correspondence, filing, and completing financial reports as described herein. - Participate in exhibition planning meetings. - As indicated by the Exhibition Manager, provide information about and assistance to other departments relating to exhibitions. - Maintain a high awareness of the museum\'s standards for preservation, and understand when conservation issues arise during the handling and storage of works of art. Qualifications: - Two years\' experience working in a museum in either curatorial or registrar\'s department. - Bachelor\'s degree in Project Management, Museum Studies, Art, or a related field. - Demonstrated working knowledge of art history and a high level of interest in contemporary art. - Be highly organized, have excellent written and verbal communication skills, management and organizational skills, and an ability to tactfully and effectively handle high level internal and external associations and exposure to confidential information. - Attention to detail, accuracy, and efficiency is essential. - Excellent interpersonal communication skills. - Ability to work effectively under minimal supervision and in a team-oriented environment. - Ability to work a flexible schedule as needed including occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays. - Candidate must maintain a current driver\'s license, personal automobile insurance and a safe driving record. Compensation: - Annual salary range \$42,000- \$45,000 - This position offers health insurance, paid time off, employer contribution to 403(b), and life insurance Position is considered open until filled.
