JOB DESCRIPTION POSITION: Long Term Substitute ESL Teacher ? High School Level QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor?s Degree (Advanced educational preparation in the area of ESL preferred); Current and Valid MA DESE license in ESL; Knowledge and understanding of ESL instruction and second language acquisition; Experience supporting bilingual/bicultural students and students with special needs. REPORTS TO: Building Principal, EL Department Head & Coordinator of EL. RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Provides individualized English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction to English Learners in accordance with the Massachusetts State Frameworks and WIDA standards. 2. Demonstrates effective techniques of classroom management, behavioral interventions, and communication to engage students. 3. Demonstrates cultural proficiency and use of effective and culturally relevant instructional practices. 4. Collaborates and communicates with the content teacher(s) to support English Learners. 5. Assists with the oversight and delivery of Massachusetts state test (ACCESS) and administers screening tests and student assessments to guide instruction. 6. Prepares for and assists with organization of EL class placement and transition meetings. 7. Completes necessary paperwork regarding the identification, progress monitoring, and reclassification of English Learners. 8. Attends building meetings and ELE meetings to promote communication and mutual decision making among the staff. 9. Monitors the implementation of EL Student Success Plans. 10. Understands and complies with the state policies, rules, and regulations regarding English Learners. 11. Performs other job-related duties as assigned. 12.
